I'm a journalism student in Canberra. I am a fan of all sport, and keen to share my opinions on everything.

Well Sydney has more than one game a weekend so it’s more a matter of choice for the sports fan as to which game they should go to. It’s very rare for both the Brumbies and Raiders to play at home on the same weekend, and you can add the factor that the Brumbies start a month before the Raiders do. The weather in February, March and April is pretty good in Canberra and the locals are used to it so I think this is no more a factor than it is an excuse.
Have a look at the numbers and you’ll see that Canberra attendances have been declining for a while, while the weather is the same and the transport has improved comparatively.

Canberra shines, but only in solo events

I was thinking along the lines of the fringe sports using Canberra and the AIS as their home base for internationals, rather than the major codes.
In a similar way that you know the English football team will play at Wembley and the Welsh rugby team will play at the Millennium Stadium, you could have the Boomers use the AIS Arena as their base, or have the Kookaburras based at the National Hockey Centre.

I find a lot of comparisons of Pardew with that of Allardyce since he’s been at West Ham. The fans don’t quite trust him, the owner/s will back him to do a job. I don’t think it can be underestimated that giving a manger more time is always going to lead to better results. Clearly Pardew has the ability to identify footballers and make them into stars but has always had to sell when they get good enough to stamp their authority on the league. I think risking sacking this sort of manager for a club that realistically shouldn’t be any higher than about 8th would be crazy. I think it’s unfair in your article that you don’t mention the players Pardew has not been able to keep. How much better would the side with Cabaye, Remy, Ba and Debuchy, let alone what Carroll was doing before he left the club?

The Pardew predicament

I don’t want to be preached to about Pespi or Coors Light, but they pay for the right to do so and therefore are allowed. As an Australian fan, you don’t even get the US advertisements, but if Tebow is used to promote Christianity as his belief that’s no different from Aaron Rodgers promoting State Farm as his preferred insurance agent. They’re all there to do the same thing.

If you’re smart enough to make your own decision about insurance, I’m sure you can do it about religion.

Tebow certainly isn’t the first sportsman to ever thank God for his achievements, and you really need to look a lot further into American football culture if you think he’s the only one doing it. I’d suggest you start here:

Sport and religion need divine intervention

Thanks Cameron.

I saw Green Bay a few times, although not as often as I would like. I think Aaron Rodgers is an incredible athlete, although GB probably paid in the end for not having a competitive D.

I certainly will check out your site.

Thank you.

I think it will be high scoring for a few reasons. Usually the Patriots let up early points to teams and have to come back (Just look at their last 3 regular season games) which allows for a high percentage of passing plays and more scoring. I think last week against the Ravens was the first time this year that the Wilfork-led defensive front stepped up from the start, and also the first time Brady has underperformed. I expect this to change for the big game.

Also if Brady puts up early points, and Gronk and Hernandez get going, the Giants will have to look to change their pass-rush style. Remember, while Green Bay operates with big plays down the field, the Patriots tend to have an approach to dump the ball down and get yards after the catch. Dallas, Atlanta and GB all play a high-powered offense, but in a much different way to the Patriots, so it won’t be that easy.

My prediction is if the Giants go for it early (through Nicks, Cruz, etc) it should be very high scoring.

I certainly didn’t believe it when Eli said it preseason, but with his numbers this year, he has to at least be in the conversation.
