I would take Tommy Makinson in a heartbeat ! World class and best winger in the Superleague by some distance and a goalkicker to boot. But he might be preferring French cuisine ?

Joey Manu leaves a huge hole in the Roosters backline - and it comes at the worst possible time for Trent Robinson

Well, we will soon see. He is off to Tokyo next year.

NRL News: Maguire happy with Papi's claims for Origin berth, Souths set to name new defence coach

But Johnson relies on Cody & Latrelle to set him up for all his tries ! And those two have been way off the pace so far this season. His age is not the issue. He is still easily the quickest in that team and has a great scoring record.

Too old, too slow: Do these two stats explain why Souths have fallen off a cliff in 2024?

Don’t we have that now? Most of the coaches just offer the usual stock standard responses and fulfill their obligations to the NRL. A couple like the two coaches in Canberra last week, like to dabble with a bit of controversy, for generally ulterior motives.

Give coaches a choice: NRL post-match press conferences are mandatory, but only to say what the bosses want you to say

Manu appears to be the type of footballer who just needs plenty of ball in hand. I think he is in for a rude shock going to Union, unless he thinks he is to play halfback ?

I’m not sure all these stats tell us too much about Souths recent poor performances ? My perception of their team is that as a team in general, they have little leg speed. So, they are slow in attack and defence. For a long time Damien Cook was the only one to offer some leg speed in the pack, but he has lost a yard in recent times and has even been relegated out of the team. So, their pack is very ponderous. Big forwards like Burgess, Tatola & Koloamatagi just can’t match the leg speed of the likes of Fisher-Harris, Leota & Martin with or without the ball. In the backs only Johnson offers any pace out wide. I don’t care how old or experienced they are, but they are just too slow for the current speed of the game, IMHO !

I love Jake, he does a heap of tackling in the guts, but offers nothing with the ball. He is too small for prop, and Yeo or Murray have a lock on the 13. Not sure you can carry him for tackling only on the bench? Perhaps if your back 5 do more of the hit ups you can get away with it ? I am a fan of Mitch Barnett who is now at the top of his game as a prop. He is very fit and in good form with & without the ball.

Wild idea but Blues should actually pick Origin team on form this time around - and that means Tedesco’s time is up

Can’t agree with you on all that MMW. Your comparison Manu especially with Edwards doesn’t stack up in plenty of 2024 current aspects: So far in 2024 Manu has played 6 matches & Edwards 5 matches and yet:
MANU EDWARDS

Total runs 111 118
Run Metres 969 1,282
Tries 4 4
Try Assist 2 3
Tackle Breaks 39 26
Line Breaks 2 1
Missed tackles 17 10
Errors 8 4

It’s only a small sample, but hardly indicates Edwards apart from yardage, is ” not great elsewhere…”

Five and a kick: Joey Manu is not the Roosters' best fullback, unless they want to run him into the ground

I reckon Harry Grant needs to be relieved of the captaincy. Since he has been skipper he has turned into a very conservative, no risk conveyance, mostly feeding others to do the team’s tricks. In fact, I think he has been turned into a Mitch Kenny. Works very hard in defence and passes well to others in the spine. It is no surprise that the Storm has been just getting home and unconvincingly this year. Grant needs to bring back his creativity and be a bit more selfish with the ball, or the big guns will soon come to test them.

NRL Power Rankings: Round 6 - Dragons, Raiders prove doubters wrong, Souths players still putting in for Demetriou

It should have always been an obstruction / interference penalty. Now they have given it a trendy new name ” the disruptor” ! And they will penalise it for at least a week or two !

NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?

The salary cap must have finally caught up with Bayern Munich ! 😛

Joe had a blinder and is leading the Raiders very well this year.

Yep ! I’m with you there. He is great player who gives 100% every week, but my criticism of him is that he often overplays his hand with wrong options as his enthusiasm seems to take over his brain.

You should have seen him as a player ! 😛

'F--- me, he's on another planet': Stuart rips into Hasler after Titans coach fumes at referee calls in golden-point thriller

100%. Strange is a beauty. A blessing in disguise was Jack leaving, as now they have number 6 who uses his backline, has natural running ability and is a strong defender. However, I reckon young Chevy Stewart still has a long way to go before he is an NRL fullback.

'F--- me, he's on another planet': Stuart rips into Hasler after Titans coach fumes at referee calls in golden-point thriller

Yep ! he can at least make some hit ups out of defence making metres to start sets. There are a number of teams out there who can’t do that very well today !

NRL News: Defiant Roosters stage their own Jennings 300 celebrations, Saifiti charged despite escaping on-field penalty

I wouldn’t have paid so much, but I guess the Dogs needed to pay more to attract some better players to their roster. And I’m sure they weren’t accounting for him to be injured for so long last year ?

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

And he could create more problems if he actually looked to set up his supports with a pass ! He did it once only for Tupou with a resultant try. Seems he doesn’t look to pass it until he can run no further with it ?

Probably get dropped again next week ?

'Embarrassing': Joey fumes over Knights keeping injured Ponga on the park as Roosters rally to win nail-biter

But he was out a long time and came back into a team that was vying for the spoon at the time ? It was tough to be a star then.

Making Teddy & Manu look like schoolboys in comparison too ?

But wasn’t he injured most of 2023 ?

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

100% Baz. He is playing in a team of improving, but with limited ability, especially in the front row and halves. How can you expect an edge forward to be starring each week if the rest are barely keeping up? Get him some extra support, and he just might star more consistently?

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

Sorry Stuart.
But you lose already with your “Trump-like tactics” reference. It used be the mentioning of Hitler to lose the argument. You have at least updated smear.

Any chance in the crowd getting a vote ??
