Brilliant Ben. Perhaps the Aussie SR teams can also start the game 15 mins before their kiwi oppositions. Seems only fair!

The Trans-Tasman conundrum, solved

Thanks for your informed analysis . Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I think PeterK got it right when he talked about the importance of the last 20 mins. Congrats to the Reds coaching staff who not only worked on fitness levels throughout the season but also for backing youth and giving game time to youngsters like Flook, Zander, Uru & Smith. This mindset benefitted the Reds throughout the season when they needed impact from their bench.

Are the Brumbies about to lose their mantle as Australia’s No.1 team? Part 2

Yep fully agree MaxP on what was a credit to both teams and a real boost for Australian Rugby overall! Importantly we also need the Tahs to rebuild quickly as we need all provinces firing for our future WC chances.
Having watch a couple of the games live in Melbourne and most of the others on television, Nic Berry is clearly Australia’s best referee & very similar in his approach to the Kiwis Ben O’Keefe who both play the advantage well and allow the game to flow until teams give away cynical penalties deep in their own territory.
Let’s rejoice in quality rugby being played again by these 2 good teams!

Super Rugby thriller! Last-ditch James O'Connor try hands Reds the Super Rugby AU title

Great insights Rhys and I agree with them all. I just wish I could get out of Melbourne to see them play up close! What I really love is the joy in their faces when they are singing the team song in the sheds after the game. You can’t fake that! Go Reds!

I like that Brad Thorn calls his players “men”

Thanks for the article Ando and the tips on podcasts to listen to. I’ve listened to the Rugby Ruckus with Kimber & Turinui and loved the in-depth analysis & interviews but keen to hear a few more.
It really is ‘line in the sand’ times for the game and it’s followers. But I’ve loved watching the Rugby both sides of the ditch this last few months. It’s the re-boot that we needed. The clean-out of the old and the breath of fresh air that the new players are bringing to the game fills me with hope. I love seeing the joy on the faces of the those young Reds players after each win and then the chats together with their opposition players after the game. Long live the game.

Fox Sports is both a blessing and a curse

Great news for Oz rugby. But disappointing that NSW gets 11 games & Qld 1 !
Having some of the games in early October in Qld would be warm but still ok

CONFIRMED: Wallabies to get home-ground advantage for 2020 Rugby Championship

I used to tuck my comb into my socks, just in case there was a break in play

The Wrap: Leadership vacuum sucks life out of the Rebels

Great read Tipsy. Appreciated your insights into Rennie’s plans. Like everyone I’m hopeful & excited about a new coach who’ll bring some new players, different strategies & maybe even a winning culture back! It’s about time to start believing again!

The biggest challenge facing Dave Rennie

From a fans viewpoint the loss of these 3 players is a real shame. I was enjoying watching them play, develop and ply their trade. If it was a change of philosophy from the coach then fine, move interstate to one of the other SR teams who would have loved to have them. Careers can be short so it’s understandable that they want to make the most of theirs.
Banning them forever is harsh. I hope they keep developing wherever they go and maybe in a few years we can benefit from their skills at a future WC.

The Wallabies should ban Hockings and Lucas for life

Well done CR . I’m a believer too!

An open letter to the young men who can save Australian rugby

Great work Gatesy. I agree 100%!!!
You remember those days so clearly.
Campese in the Aus u21’s at Ballymore
Horan & Little playing centres for Brisbane v somebody
Eales debuting for Oz against Wales in 91.
Petaia was a revelation against the Highlanders earlier this year and like a kid at Xmas I looked forward to what he can deliver on the big stage!

The privilege of seeing a rugby star born

Thanks for your article JD & think 4 is your only definite and can see 5 as the likely outcome but would like to dream!
The good news:
– we’re in the QF
– the tight 5 are hitting their straps ( not sure who between AA or SK up front though)
– on a dry track we can challenge anyone
– we’re due for our bi-monthly ‘blinder’
– the Poms are overconfident.
The bad news:
– the backline still isn’t settled
– I’m not clear on the WB strategy (team isn’t either me thinks)
– all kickers have been inconsistent.
The side for next week:
– Pick the side that can take it to England
– need a big forward pack with big reserves
– we’ll need tries as they’ll try to kick plenty (must run them off their feet)
– run through the 10-12 channel all day ( Ford won’t tackle & Farrell might get penalised)
– strong kick-chase game by the wingers (JP & MK)
– we need to be safe under the high ball ( that’s their only game Plan)
So
( DHP, JP & MK.)
(SK & JOC.)
( NW & CLL.)
( IN, MH & JD.)
( RA & IR.)
(AA,TL& SS.)
Reserves:
(KB, MT & WG.)
(DP, LLS (2nd row), TT, SK, FF.)
Whoever gets on, let’s all get behind them and who knows maybe we can string 2 or maybe 3 blinders together????

Five things we learned from the Wallabies' win over Georgia

It’s certainly got me fooled

Hooper to the bench, To'omua at flyhalf among ten Wallabies changes for Georgia clash

I agree with you. Kerevi isn’t the ‘lock’ anymore particularly on the back of some poor handling & his lack of offloads to players in better positions. I liked what I saw with Toomua at 12 & TK at 13 yesterday. Imagine having these 2 starting and at 50 mins CLL comes off , MT slots into 5/8 & Kerevi comes on to carve things up!
MT offers a lot more with a cut pass to both Petaia & Koroibete or DHP. All of a sudden the backline looks fast again!

Tevita Kuridrani pushing for Wallabies starts

I’ve got a feeling CLL got a decent head knock vs Fiji and that’s why he’s didn’t start against Wales. That said all the more reason to start him next week with the “A” team against Georgia and rest him against Uruguay.

Jordan Petaia finally set for Wallabies debut as Michael Cheika names team for Uruguay

If all goes well this week I agree with you that DHP,JP & Marika will be our back 3 for Georgia & beyond!

Jordan Petaia finally set for Wallabies debut as Michael Cheika names team for Uruguay

Sorry Azza but JP was always marked down for this game and on the wing as well. If he gets through it injury wise he will be on the bench at least for the QF as cover for wing & centre if not picked outright for the wing.

Howley goes home!
Wales wheels are wobbling!!

Rugby World Cup 2019 preview series: Wales

All good points Spiro.
For me the sign of a great team and the probable winner of this WC will be the team that can adapt when their Plan A isn’t working. Not the following week but during that game! It’s not a strength of the WB’s at the moment but would love to see it in the coming weeks????

My fearless prediction says the All Blacks will win the 2019 World Cup

Key takeaway points means plan for next game!
You make good point earlier re umbrella defence curtailing Foley. So whether it’s Foley or CL at 5/8 we need an alternative playmaker on the blindside or later in the phases.
Banks did play well and he needs to be in the back 3. LSL is probably better suited to reserve lock and Dempsey or Valentini could do the 6 role but would still start with Wright and Hooper off the bench.

Wallabies haunted by Ellis Park curse

Key takeaway points:
Have specialist wingers in place- Koroibete & Pulu/Banks
Get the first string props on field – AAA & Sio
We need a second playmaker at 15 to shift the focus as it’s too easy to shut down a Foley only attack – Beale to start
Outside centre to be a foil to Kerevi – JOC to 13
Breakdown specific players – Dempsey & Wright

Some say we were unlucky but good teams make their own luck. It’s time for the whole squad to step up

Wallabies haunted by Ellis Park curse

I quite admire what Erasmus is doing and utilising 2 full teams for his games giving him hard matches for 30-35 players. Cheik has had them for a fortnight and we’ve lost 6 to injury without a game! We should be blooding people now rather than panic substituting in Japan when more injuries come.

The Rugby Championship Week 1: Blow out the cobwebs

Pooper exists because Hooper can’t steal the pill and what worries me most is that there is no Liam Wright even on the bench! If the Boks have a field day surely Wright should start.
great to see LSL in the team but should be reserve lock with Jones starting. Go Wallabies!

Tom Banks, Nic White named to start as Wallabies side to play South Africa is revealed

Agree mate. Kerevi/Kuridrani are too much of the same. JOC could be more like the Jason Little that we need there

Tom Banks, Nic White named to start as Wallabies side to play South Africa is revealed

Great read PK. Although the teams has been picked I agree with most of your picks especially the back row. We need an out and out pilferer and thats Wright. I respect Hooper for his 110% effort in every game but where to play him? I hope not to be reviewing the game next week and see once again that we didn’t win any breakdowns. In terms of the back 3, I think we need 3 players who can take the high ball show some pace and of course tackle. DHP should be 15, banks on 1 wing & Maddocks the other if he was fit. What are your thoughts about JOC as a possible 13 at least in the future, if nothing else than to break up the too similar Kerevi/Kuridrani style?
