I’m on the fence, the end results have been predicable, but a couple of straight kicks and that’s on it’s not so clear. I’m thinking North v. Geelong, North v. Hawks, Freo v. Richmond.

Has the 2013 AFL season been too predictable?

Cowan has a tidy average in England.

India vs Australia Second Test day four: Cricket live scores, updates

Spot On. We don’t have anyone – Lyon isn’t awesome, but he is without a doubt the best we have.

My public apology to Nathan Lyon

This is misdirected – Clarke’s biggest flaw as captain is his management of the over-rate, Lyon is unlikely to get the “slow down mate” from the bloke who’s saying “speed up mate”.

Slow down Mr Lyon, you move too fast

Also, the Argus Review rightly cemented test cricket as our primary focus. The only way to assure that that mentality is engrained is to support red ball cricket at state level. If we reduce the importance of state red ball cricket we risk players taking the mentality of the current crop of West Indians.

Scheduling and rotation on CA's list of problems

Winding up the shield early is dangerous. A strong shield = a strong national side. The only issue there is attendance – cheaper tickets and cheaper beer will sort that out.

Scheduling and rotation on CA's list of problems

I’ll happily eat humble pie at the end of the Ashes if need be, but if I were putting money down I’d have it on Cowan averaging higher than Watson this time next year.

TGT

Watson may only be 31, but as they say – age is just a number and Watson has the body of a 55 year old arthritis sufferer.

Cowan crucial to Australian cricket's chances

That’s fair enough, apologies, more so I think the discussion about Australian cricket could benefit from a more thorough deconstruction. Everyone seems to be concerned about tomorrow not next month/year.

Thats the problem – armchair selectors throwing out lines like ‘Furguson seems to be back in form’. Sort it out mate. Cowan is doing well enough, and he’s the only genuine opener in the side. Think beyond shield averages in the last 5 weeks when offering your selection policy please.

We need an opener who can occupy the crease. We’re about to play India away and England away but yeah ‘Ferguson seems to be back in form’ so lets just chuck him in at opening bat.

I’m partial to the idea of Warner playing down the order. I think he’d be awesome coming in at 6, but he’d have to sort out his leggies.

Hayden and Langer, as it says in the article, had averages of 24 and 33 respectively. They ended up OK, however you may not like them.

Cowan crucial to Australian cricket's chances

you say so much without saying anything. Cowan is a good opening batsman. He is the only real opening bat in the side. The only one.

How was Hauritz’s 63 at 34 better than Lyon’s 61 at 32, remembering Lyon is younger, less experienced and before his prime in the the world of spin bowling?

Australia's sticky spin situation

Super coaches in Australia are so precious. Take a leaf out of New Zealand’s book, they are the second tier of coaching in Australia, act accordingly. It is their responsibility to roll with the punches when it comes to test match scheduling and while we’re here to manage player fitness to the point that the Wallabies coaches don’t need to be running the squad through basic fitness. It is their job primarily as entities under the ARU to ensure the Wallabies are in the best shape possible. These Super 15 coaches could whinge for Australia. Sort it out for

Lions schedule hands Super coaches an unpredictable task

I’m not so phased about the TV rights it’s the match day attendance. These blokes are phenomenal cricketers and no one goes to watch like they did in the days of old. Free entry and $4 beers at North Sydney Oval. That’ll bring the crowds in.

The ABC should broadcast the Sheffield Shield

That’s just wrong mate. The dividend paid through the middle order on balls faced by an opener is massive. I would much rather have Clarke and especially Hughes sitting in the sheds until the ball stops shining.

Is Ed Cowan good enough?

‘But what about loyalty? There’s precious little of it from clubs. Loyal one-club players get de-listed by their clubs, or offered as trade bait. Forced to take pay cuts so a big name player can be squeezed into the salary cap. Can be shown the door on a whim.’

Absolutely spot on.

Money-hungry mercenaries? Or just typical Gen-Y workers?
