Pakistan, Nigeria and Brazil are 5,6,7

Who makes the cut for Bangladesh's all-time Test XI?

To be honest none of Bangladesh’s pace options have strong arguments for inclusion.
Mortaza was the ‘OG’ pacer and had the outright pace to trouble quality batsman.
Ahmed has only played the 12 games, 26 wickets at 56.

Don’t think he’s quite done enough to unseat Mortaza, who likely would have had his own issues with lack of luck and catches going down.

Who makes the cut for Bangladesh's all-time Test XI?

Younis played against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe 12 times combined vs 11 times against Australia.

Played a lot of games against Sri Lanka but he did so against arguably their strongest period as a cricket nation in Test cricket.

17 games v Eng
14 v South Africa
9 v India.

Who makes the cut for Pakistan's all-time Test XI?

57 including 4 100s against Australia
46 including 4 100s against England
88 including 5 100s against India

Only had 12 total games against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe vs at least 11 matches vs against everyone else except India where he played 9 matches.
I don’t think Stat Padder is a fair appraisal of his career. He’s stood up against everyone.

Inzy was obviously an incredible player and wouldn’t not be out of place in the side, but he only averaged 31 vs Australia. We found it tough to leave him out but we’re happy with Khan’s inclusion.

Who makes the cut for Pakistan's all-time Test XI?

Hutton’s top score of 364 (which was a test record) was against Australia.
He averaged 56 overall against Australia and 50 in Australia.

Like I said I like Vaughan but Hutton is well an truly ahead

England's all-time Test XI

I like Vaughan, and loved what he did for England as captain.

But he is zero chance of displacing Len Hutton

England's all-time Test XI

That’s a great side. Plenty of talent come out of England over the years.
However I don’t think you’re being entirely fair. Making it sound like KP and Swann are trash players.
They have exceptional records. Especially Swann.
More importantly in celebration of England’s 1000th Test the ECB released its own All Time XI and they were both in it.

England's all-time Test XI

Goes against Black Lives Matter… that’ll do me.
Enough hyper sensationalising already.

So to do an accurate Test XI to reflect population balance I needed to pick 9 Afrikaans players and one white South African?
I think instead I’m just going to go with who I think we’re the better cricketers..

My article doesn’t endorse apartheid, it fact refers to it as horrible policies. But the point is not supposed to be a scathing review of the inner workings of historic South Africa.

This is merely a representation of who are the outstanding cricketers that have represented their country. It’s not political and have no desire for it to be turned into a political lightning rod.

If you believe that South African sport history should start in 1992 you are more than welcome to write your own article reflecting your views.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

Ratnayake actually has a better record in “pace friendly” conditions like Australia and England. Has a 5fer in each and Malinga doesn’t. It is a small sample size, but so is Malinga’s
There isn’t a great deal between them and you probably don’t lose anything by changing them. When we split them we gave a little more weight to Ratnayake’s performances as he was trying to forge Sri Lanka’s identity from near the beginning and helped Sri Lanka find its footing in world cricket.
Malinga’s record is buoyed by 27 wickets against Bangladesh between 2005 and 2007 when Bangladesh were still struggling mightily and Ratnayake was afforded no such opportunity

Sri Lanka all-time Test XI

The reason you are looking for regarding Sachin continuing on is that he became a selfish stats chaser.

Had to get to 100 100s
Had to be the first to 200 test.
And India revered him enough that they facilitated it.

Sri Lanka all-time Test XI

His record after dropping the gloves is other worldly

Sri Lanka all-time Test XI

Possibly one of my favourite knocks not by an Australian.
He was in sublime form that day

Sri Lanka all-time Test XI

How does it fail to acknowledge modern South Africa? The majority of the players are from post 1992. And of the players picked pre the ICC ban none of them were known for holding any racist views. In fact they all played for the World XI and shared dressing rooms with coloured players.
This article was in no way politically driven.
It’s purely based on the talent of the men that have represented South Africa

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

I don’t think this assertion is correct.
When you look the all time stats for South African players are included.
Graeme Pollock’s name always comes up when they show all time highest batting averages.
There is no question that South Africa has a dark past but it shouldn’t discount the accomplishments of those that did play.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

Kallis played 80 innings at 3 and averaged 50.
He has over 13k runs to go with all of his wickets and catches.
There is zero chance that Kallis doesn’t play in an all time South African XI.

I knew I was going to get some conjecture over the IX I picked but I would never have imagined that Kallis would be one that I needed to argue

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

Kallis would play ahead of Amla

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

No arguments here. It’s staggering that Australia hasn’t produced a genuine allrounder since Miller and South Africa are tripping over test quality all rounders.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

It was a Bill Lawry led side, but Chappell was their gun batsman if that’s what you meant.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

I’d argue that with Donald, Proctor and Steyn you’d have enough mongrel to compensate for Pollock’s ‘niceties’
He managed to take 400 plus wickets at less than 24 so it didn’t hold him back too much

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

That 90 stands out to me because it was just after Johnson had finished decimating the Poms and then he came over to South Africa and looked every bit as destructive. He hit Smith a few times, smashed Amla in the grill. Everyone looked like they were out of there element facing him.
Out strides AB and calmly stands tall and defends a shorter ball comfortably out of the middle. Just completely unbothered, if he had a partner in crime I don’t know if the Aussies would have ever got him out. One of the finest knocks I’ve seen when the rest of the side seemed completely overwhelmed.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

For some clarification we didn’t consider players that never actually played any test cricket. There was already enough conjecture and what if with this XI without opening that can of worms.
While Barlow was an excellent player, Smith was one of the players we considered an absolute lock for the side.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

Can definitely appreciate this point of view. Made the judgment based on his Tests and Supertest appearances and on the opinions of those playing with Procter at the time.
And let’s face it 1400 wickets at 19 is pretty damn special. I think there is enough there to justify the speculation he would have been a fine test cricketer.
But there is no issue with playing the extra batsman. Amla is an incredible talent, we just went the other way.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

Not a bad shout, but we made a decision when doing these that we’d go with specialist keepers when doing these and not “cheat” and pick batsman who may have done the role briefly.
Sangakkara is good example. People select him on the basis that he averages 57 or thereabouts as a wicketkeeper in a a lot of World XI sides. But Kumar didn’t become that prolific batsman until he stopped keeping.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

We didn’t really consider him as he played 44 tests for England.
But a mention regarding his impact on cricket as a South African maybe.
But given South Africa has been playing International cricket for 130 years if I mentioned everyone that deserved a mention I’d still be writing 😁

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

In our podcast when we selected the XI Chanderpaul was very close to getting into the side. He churned out a very good career

West Indies all-time Test XI
