Hi Simon, I love re-reading these articles after the event. I think the match reflected the score line you predicted. Fair play to you.

Super Rugby Final: Lions vs Crusaders preview and prediction

“But there is no guarantee of long-term sustained success at international level – unless you’re the All Blacks” achieved by huge amounts of grass roots work.

If you neglect to nurture the roots, the plant will eventually die

I think opening up national selection to those playing in Europe will strengthen the national team and open the door for the younger players to get experience in the tough super rugby environment.

Argentina's rugby conundrum

Blues could have an outstanding year and still finish 5th in the NZ conference. They will come right and they finished in the top 8 in competition points even though they didn’t have a great season. They will only improve under Tana. I said in a facebook group at the end of last year ‘beware the Auckland Blues for 2017’ maybe next year.

Super Rugby round semi-finals: No further upsets

I think Mvovo might have just cost the Hurricanes the title.

The Wrap: Finals a rare win for SANZAAR, but is it too little too late?

Former Wallaby Rod Kafer appointed to development role

I would look at b Smith on the wing – he had only had one season there for the AB’s (2014 I think) and broke try scoring records. I would keep Jordy at full back, but then who do you drop. I think there’s plenty more to come from J Savea on the wing. But yes – I would accomodate J Barrett somewhere, he’s too dynamic to leave out.

In a game of fine margins, Barrett cost the All Blacks a series victory

Interesting thought there mace – my first thought would be they would try to defend tighter to the ruck leaving room for two out runners which will leave a no mans land for the ‘2 out’ runners. On reflection they’ll probably start with Itoje, Laws and Stander and try to hold the same game plan more effectively. I think either way the All Blacks will change what they do and the winning margin will increase.

All Blacks bring out the stray cat

“the Azzurii are the best scrummagers in world rugby” – Haha

Wallabies beat the Azzurri in a photo finish

Jeez – it was ALB who was demoted – he had an awesome game so to be dropped to the bench after that effort was surprising for someone about to play their first rugby for a few weeks is tough – i would have thought ALB would have started with Crotty to come off the bench.

I was suprised at J Savea being dropped, I thought he was involved a lot during the Samoa game. Congrats to Reiko though – reward for a good season so far.

Savea brothers demoted by All Blacks

“Out of all this and 2016, one wonders what it was that aligned for the Wallabies in their 2015 charge to the World Cup final or whether that was simply an anomaly now lost to time.” – What a great sentence!!

To answer your musing, it was an anomaly now lost to time.

Three arguments that aren't helping the Wallabies

Just had a look on skyscanner – Bloem to Auckland 22 hours – Bloem to Tokyo 21 hours – Bloem to London 14 hours so there’s definitely an advantage there. The question is would the Pro 12 lot be willing to take the flight?

I like it., drop to 14. Japan has a good domestic competition filled with different nationalities. I don’t think the Sunwolves inclusion is a massive plus for the growth of rugby in Japan. The Japanese league offers more to the Japanese rugby public and players than watching the Sunwolves get thrashed every week.

With regard to the Jaguares, looking at the Argentine world cup/international record, it may be better for Argentine players to be spread across Europe and come together for tests like the Rugby Championship and end of year tours. It has been said on this site (can’t remember by who) the Argies look like they could do with a break from each other.

Why the Super Rugby conference system must change
