Massive Bulldogs man, basically live by whatever they\'re up to.

People forget that 3 out of the 4 finals we won easily, we should have had the Swans on toast at 3QT if it weren’t for poor goalkicking in the third. Against the Hawks and Eagles we were up by around 50 points in the last quarter, so apart from a classic prelim spare me the ‘fluke’ aspect of the 2016 finals results.
What can be seen as a fluke is injury and consistency prone players (Wood, Smith, Biggs, T Boyd, Dickson etc) putting together the best four weeks of footy of their careers.
This comment isn’t a direct reply to you, Scribe. Just seemed a good place to put it!

The nowhere Bulldogs are letting another season slip away

Really interesting point and I would love to watch a replay to watch out for it. I do remember watching one of the Pies’ matches this year against the Bombers, it could have been ANZAC day, not so sure. However I did notice that when the ball was in dispute rarely did multiple Magpies go into the groundball contest, one maybe two with the rest spread quite wide around the scrimmage. I assumed the effect of this was two-fold, if they win the ball the longer handball out to space meant numbers were well on the outside, also of the opposition win the ball they’re ready to pounce with pace.

Five talking points from Collingwood vs Richmond

Even if Collingwood lose, I can’t see Sydney or GWS beating them at the G.

Five talking points from Richmond vs Hawthorn

You won’t get fried, every chance of it happening and really I think it is more likely than not. All hinges on you beating the Cats really. I think the only reason you’d get fried is because no one wants it to happen!

A Richmond vs Hawthorn final at some stage would be dam intriguing though.

Believe it or not, the run home became even more exciting after a captivating Round 20

Would have to disagree, the last few years have been quite open whereas at the moment the Tigers are clear favourites. Doesn’t mean they’re certainties but definitely favourites by a journey.

Four hot takes from AFL Round 15

An idea would be to stage it over two weeks in the preseason with VIC, SA, WA and Allies playing off and the winners play the following week, or year, or maybe later in the year, not sure. Don’t like the whole VIC vs Everyone Else, SA and WA would prefer to have their own sides and they’d definitely be strong enough.

AFL State of Origin set to make comeback

This game plan I’m not sure is sustainable, it will be interesting to see how the Tigers back it up next year. It seems to need 100% buy in and to bring a nearly super-human amount of pressure, resilience and manic intensity for the whole match, week after week. The Bulldogs dropped off slightly and didn’t quite bring it to the level of September 2016 and look what happened.
Sounds funny but I think playing this way will bring one premiership to the side that does it best, but it is such a tiring game plan that it is impossible to back it up.

The AFL's small ball revolution is here, and it is shaping the trade period

Shame WC didn’t win in 2015. That eagle was awesome.

How a cartoon has decided the last ten AFL grand finals

Dogs haven’t played Hawks yet, last round of the season is the first time.

But that’s just it, they’re not winning. One win from the last six isn’t it? And that one win against Brisbane.

They might not be Giants: Will GWS be all promise, no premiership?

Yes the ‘Doing it for Bob’ mantra got way to much momentum. Granted Bob has been fantastic since the Griffen/McCartney fiasco but before then he was really no more than a running half back with an elite kick. Bob doesn’t deserve a premiership any more than all before him, and personally I’m more happy that Matty Boyd, who was captain during a long lean period was able to taste premiership glory.

Western Bulldogs are down and almost out

Fair report there Cam, and I completely agree with Stringer. I feel he needs to spend the off-season this year working on his fitness and try to nail down a more midfield orientated role. He has the potential along with the size, frame, speed and strength to be a Dangerfield/Dusty type midfielder. But obviously the work rate and commitment needs to improve to get to this level.

In terms of the 2016 home and away season, there were plenty of flat periods. But unlike this year we haven’t been able to consistently win the close matches. Reverse the results this year against WC and GWS and it’s a completely different story. I still hold out a little hope that we can sneak into 8th, but to be honest I don’t think it really matters.

Western Bulldogs are down and almost out

Easy, the way things are looking they will be playing Adelaide or GWS so the MCG issue is void.

Don’t forget the Pride Match…

Wandering down AFL's expectation lane

To be honest I dont think Bontempelli could do much more on Saturday night. It’s the depth players in McLean, Daniel, Biggs etc that need to step up to the level in which we are accustomed.

Eight quick takes from AFL Round 3

I guess Etihad is still west on the city…would be seen dead there!

The Roar’s AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 3

SPP’s original piece vs Shaun Burgoyne is much better.

Football as modern art, featuring Sam Powell-Pepper and Rory Sloane

Bit of a funny situation to find themselves in, obviously while he’s there you want to play him if he’s in your best 22. This gives you a better chance to win and also drives up the price for a trade.
On the other side if it is obvious he is leaving at the end of the year do you play someone else in preparation for next year? My thoughts are the former is the most sensible option.

2017 AFL preview series: Western Bulldogs - 3rd

I can see Stringer and Crameri rotating between forward and midfield, rarely will you see both in the forward 50. Seemed to work pretty well against GC, especially with Stringer getting into the game and in turn gaining confidence around the goals. The mid sized fleet of Stringer, Crameri, Dickson and Clay Smith will be a bloody nightmare to defend.

He did take a nice pack mark in the third quarter against GWS. Massive goal in the shadows of half time in the Grand Final too. Hopefully with a full preseason he launches into 2017, floating between the wing and forward pocket.

2017 AFL preview series: Western Bulldogs - 3rd

Jeez Adams looked a fair bit behind in the JLT series. I have massive concerns for him, hopefully it’s just injury issues as he was fantastic early last year.

2017 AFL preview series: Western Bulldogs - 3rd

Good read Cameron, can’t argue with much here. Only minor critique would be the little stab at Cockatoo, he can be anything but it is only his third year, pretty sure fitness has been his main issue so if he can work on his tank then he can definitely add the pace the Cats midfield desperately need.

And also none of those confusing ‘blocking’ free kicks.

Marcus Bontempelli will end the year as the AFL's best player
