I’m hoping so. I see the future of the Reds as having a stable, long-term centre partnership of Henry and Flook. Both young, both super talented. Just need to get them on the field and playing together long term.
Not sure where that places Paisami, but injuries and rotation amongst those three will no doubt ensure he continues to provide valuable service.

'All up for grabs': Bulked up Lynagh gunning for Reds 10 jersey in four-way shootout

Lynagh played a part in all this madness. He was a leading signature on the ‘Captain’s Letter’ that brought down Castle. She had a plan and a vision for RA and her departure brought about three years of chaos and short-termism.

Some accountability from Noddy, Nick Farr Jones and the rest of that group of ‘legends’ would be nice.

'Laughing at us': Wallabies legend fears doomsday scenario for Australian rugby, urges 'bold' solution

Highlights:
– Fines looking red hot after the droll display by Gordon.
– Wilson was on a mission when he came on and he delivered. Ran hard into shoulders as well as his usual gaps, recycled quickly, good hands, excellent defence. Needs to be in the mix for the Bledisloe games.
– Flook, Lonergan and Sapsford brought some goodness off the bench
– Didn’t know Foley had such a boot on him (he didn’t used to). A few in the second half just soared over the Tongan covering defence.
– O’Connor was dangerous (has improved since end of Super season) but let down by a few errors. Could be of interest to Eddie imho.
Lowlights
– No starch in defence in first half at all
– Jock was disappointing for the most part. He can be better.
– OToole bumped easily for a Tongan try down his edge. Eddie will have noticed this.
– Swintons cons outweigh his pros.

Thrown together Australia A side beaten by Tonga as Tupou completes comeback, mixed day for RWC hopefuls

Great list. And a great format.
A few comments:
1. Think Canham might enter the chat soon at lock. Had a blinder on the weekend despite the loss.
2. L. Wright should be higher.
3. R. Scott above Wilkin in my view. More of a test player and highlighted by Wilkin’s poor game last weekend.
4. L. Reimer also emerging into contention.
5. Is Cabour Eloff eligible now? I now he’s made some mistakes in recent weeks, but his set piece is usually solid and ready for test level imo.

Very interested to see how Billy Pollard goes this week, hopefully with a bit more game time.

Complete Super Rugby teams: Tahs welcome back Wallabies enforcer for Force clash, Reds lose key men

If Billy Pollard isn’t in that mix, I’ll eat my hat.

Make a note: Lynagh and Jorgo catch Eddie's eye as he drafts first Wallabies team, but there's a rebuke for Rory Arnold

Absolutely this ^^^
Let’s also not forget he got to within a bee’s whisker of getting the brumbies into the SR final. In my view, this was down to a team with excellent cohesion, confidence and settled combinations (eg White & Lolesio; Simone & Ikitau etc). Lolesio has never had the opportunity to settle into combinations or play in a team with cohesion at test level; it has been markedly disrupted and I can’t recall him having the same 9 & 12 starting with him in any consecutive matches (has he even started consecutive matches?!?!?).

WALLABIES TEAM: Rennie springs No. 10 surprise, Rebels prop set to debut, Wright returns to fullback

Blyth? Smith? My god, I’m a reds supporter but even I know our locks are atrociously weak at the moment. Blyth was lucky he didn’t get dropped by the end of this season he was sooo bad. Surely you remember when he fell off three tackles in thirty minutes directly resulting in three tries?!
Smith is a bit better, but nowhere near the quality we need in the Wallabies. Not physical enough, particularly if you compare him to Swain or Blyth.
Tupou? He should be better than AAA but isn’t at the moment. He’ll come good hopefully soon.
Uru vs Leota – yes I agree with you here.
Daugunu? You’ve got to be kidding me. More mistakes per match than any player from any team I watched in SR this year.
Wilson vs Valetini? Now you’re clearly taking the piss. Can’t believe I wrote a serious reply to you only to realise it was all a joke once I got to the last line 😔

The Wrap: Let's get the Wallabies and All Blacks on the plane before they run out of players

Who in their own minds thinks they are a one test player? Nobody.
Anyone at that level desperately wants to play more tests – to think they would ‘create havoc’ and injure players on purpose because they’re a ‘one test player’ is ludicrous.

'System is broken': Darcy Swain's ban is far too light, SANZAAR's judiciary process is failing the game

So why wouldn’t Lolesio get the guernsey on the bench if they need a back-up playmaker?

WALLABIES TEAM: JOC gets redemption shot after 'stinker', Foketi's first start, prop to debut

This is a really interesting question. If you’ve got JOC and Slipper off at the 50-60minute mark, then who could you have? It’s quite a raw (but talented) Wallabies team when you look at it. Options from 60minutes on might come down to:
– White if he is still on (or McDermott if he has replaced him)
– Rory Arnold??
– Reece Hodge??
– Len Ikitau??

This is another question that really illustrates the volume of injuries/absences we’re currently dealing with.

WALLABIES TEAM: JOC gets redemption shot after 'stinker', Foketi's first start, prop to debut

Yeah, agree on McReight actually. You could see him potentially eclipsed by Gamble in the fight for Hooper’s guernsey post 2023.

Coach's Corner: Captains and coaches heading for the exit?

You’re probably right 😔

Maybe we should have a pool of captains and they just select one for each game based on who’s fit and in form…. (not completely serious about this…. but just maybe….)

Coach's Corner: Captains and coaches heading for the exit?

It’s clear to me that Hooper will have the captaincy until the WC. After the world cup, I expect they will pick a young leader to take us to the next one. Options that I can see in order of likelihood:
1. Angus Bell
2. Fraser McReight
3. Andrew Kellaway
4. Samu Kerevi (only unlikely because I don’t think he’s coming back to SR anytime soon and I expect RA will want a locally based captain. Otherwise, at 29 going into 33 by the next WC he would probably be ideal)
5. Any of Len Ikitau / Nick Frost / Darcy Swain

Coach's Corner: Captains and coaches heading for the exit?

Great article Brendon. I wonder if the wallabies put Koroibete in the middle of the park for kickoffs (ie where the fullback usually stands) whether the opposition would still kick to him? Having Kellaway/Hodge/Petaia – three backs that can kick pretty well – as the receivers on the edges might make the opposition re-think the strategy.

RUGBYCOLOGY: The Wallabies player rival teams target at the restart, and why he's a weakness

Blyth has been lucky to keep a place in the Reds IMHO. His defence has been woeful. I think that’s why Rennie would be off him – a sound defence has to be one of the core requirements for getting picked in one of his teams.

Australia A team: Ryan Lonergan to lead, Edmed at flyhalf as Gilmore names side to face Samoa

Any chance Frost gets a starting spot as a bolter? His stats are impressive and I like his physicality and speed. But if Rennie pulled this rabbit out of the bag, who does he partner him with in the row?

It's time for the Wallabies to front up against ancient foes, and this is how they should do it

What baffles me is that he thinks Blyth is in any way, shape or form as good as Solokaia-Loto. He fell off three tackles giving away three tries in the space of 30 minutes a few weeks ago. How is that sort of performance rewarded in a professional environment?! Second row is the one position the Reds are really struggling at (lineouts!) and he leaves our one Wallaby lock at home??!! Smh

Thorn reveals miracle moment that's inspiring Reds, gives verdict on Matera escape and Lukhan banishment

I just assumed he had a massive bender after the AU final and came back into camp in poor nick. Coach Brad wouldn’t have given him much thrift if that happened.
Can’t think of any other logical explanation because he was definitely on the nose going into the nz games.

How the Reds scrapped and scrambled to victory in the destruction derby

I haven’t seen much of him, but the clips above remind me of Scotty Higginbotham. I always thought he had such immense talent: great running lines + support play + ball handling. I don’t think we ever saw the best of higginbotham at international level.
Will we see Dombrandt’s potential fulfilled?

Folau fires in flying start to rugby return in Japan

Mark Waugh’s only concern was that we were dawdling our way to a 400 lead. He said we should have had more urgency to get there quickly, particularly with only 5 wickets down (eg go the tonk to give yourself more overs to bowl at them). I tend to agree.

In the end, we didn’t even get to a 400 lead, we got 387 ahead and declared because Carey got out and Cummins didn’t seem to want to pad up. It all seemed a bit laissez fair and random.

FLEM’S VERDICT: Cummins will learn from declaration error but rain was reason Aussies didn’t win Test

Look I’ll be pissed if we don’t open up after 80% double vax levels being reached. But, at this stage that remains the plan and I’m all for it. It has made perfect sense to me to lock the borders until we reach that level. And internally, it has given us enormous freedoms. I understand there are people who have been very hard done by in not being able to get in to see their loved ones. But, can you imagine how many more would have been hard done by if we locked down for four months like the southern states?

Six Pumas, including Matera, locked out of Queensland after Byron visit, Wallabies Test will go ahead

Hosting every Rugby championship game, the NRL finals, the AFL final, all in front of packed houses. If QLD and WA don’t get to have an ashes test this year because they are still transitioning to 80% vax levels prior to opening up, I think on balance they’ll still come out on top.

Or maybe it would have been better to let the virus in, lockdown for four months with no sport and then get to host an ashes test? I know what I would have preferred.

Six Pumas, including Matera, locked out of Queensland after Byron visit, Wallabies Test will go ahead

Struggling to comprehend Gordon getting a lower score than McDermott. Gordon was impressive off the bench. Passing was outstanding and noticeably snappier than Tates. He was also quicker to the breakdown in my opinion. I felt that he gave the Wallabies far more go-forward than Tate. With the ABs rush defence, Lolesio was placed under a lot of pressure with Tate’s slower pills.
