That sums it up for me. He’s #BloodyHopeless

ASHES: Talking points from Lord's day three

To know Adelaide mentality intimately is to get into the head of Spencer Von Einem.

I remember going to a Bay (Glenelg) bottleshop when the Vics won the right to the Grand Prix. The bloke in the bottleshop didn’t want me to buy VB. He wanted me to buy a ‘Kick a Vic’ promo T-shirt, and take a slab of sh*t West End home. Yet I was a local at the time.

Instead of the SANFL & SACA getting together with a deal (way back when) they end up with a monstrous white elephant called Footy Park. Now they’ve destroyed the heritage and beauty of Adelaide Oval and turned it into tent city. All in the name of false ecumenism.

As Salman Rushdie said, “Adelaide would make a great setting for a Stephen King novel.”

It’s easy to be a narcissist and egomaniac in Adelaide. You only have to compete with other small fish. All the big-noters in Adelaide have small fish in a big pond mentality.

You won’t fix this problem because Adelaide exists and people live in Adelaide.

Port Adelaide grapples with identity crisis

Ronan, this is an accurate summary of Clarke’s captaincy:

“…Clarke often makes surprising strategic moves seemingly based on a hunch. On occasions they prove embarrassingly unsuccessful. On others they embarrass the opposition.”

Lara Bingle was an embarrassing ‘hunch’.

I’m not a fan of the ‘I’ve got a hunch that might work’ mentality in Australian captains. I’d rather see them bring on spinners (even the part-timers) more often when the fast bowlers are bowling rubbish – which has been quite often in the past few years.

Like in Ian Chappell’s day when the cry was, ‘Give Dougie a bowl.’

It’s a crying shame that Clarke’s back isn’t up to bowling himself at times.

They deserved a refund last year.

Bombers members owed a refund

He definitely put the ball down but he certainly wasn’t over the line.

Mitchell Pearce vs fat, naked bald guy

Glenn,

I doubt there’s anything in your article which Boof isn’t aware of.

Your article reads like John Inverarity wrote it. “Dear Boof, as your headmaster, let me tell you how things are.”

Reply: “Thanks John, but I’ve got it under control, and don’t need you sticking your unqualified bib in.”

Australian cricket in more trouble off the field than on

I don’t agree with anything you’ve written.

Firstly, there’s rhinos in South Africa. And who knows what route the Japanese scientists take to do their studies on whales in Australian oceans.

Taking anything Gerard Whateley says seriously and quoting it suggests you wish your name was Malcolm Conn.

Your references to T20 & ODI stats suggests you wish your name was Bruce MacAvaney.

Mentioning the Netherlands suggests you belong in Amsterdam, and should lay of the gunga, spliffs and bongs.

Building a team of character around a senior citizen like Chris Rogers is like saying Ricky Ponting should return and bat for another 14 years.

Apart from that? If this was a Year 10 Assignment titled ‘Write a journalism article on cricket’ you’d get a fail.

David Warner's return not required

If a bloke wants to devote his life to converting and saving the world? I’m not sure playing AFL at the same time is the answer.

Harry O'Brien really needs a decent rest

We’re definitely onto something here. Now to get people to take us seriously.

AFL should be ambitious with Origin

I suggest the AFL poll the players and see which team they follow in NRL state of Origin, and select two teams on that basis.

Then run the comp at the same time and same best of 3 format as the NRL State of Origin.

AFL should be ambitious with Origin

It was his nickname at Brisbane. Ask Martin Leslie.

Are Buckley and the Magpie players on the same page?

Classic.

You’ve still got time to include a few more.

Michael Vaughan and Beefy Botham need a mention.

The Ashes Scavenger Hunt

I wish people would leave the reporting of this issue to Caroline Wilson. There isn’t anything she doesn’t know about it – past, present or to come.

JOHNNO: No-one likes it, but Jobe Watson’s Brownlow has to go

I have to agree. They’re even worse against the swinging ball than the spinning ball … and that’s saying something.

Forget India, Australia must look to the Ashes

Maybe my comment shouldn’t be about me but let me tell you a bit about myself …

AFL should be about the game, not media

Thommo is an automatic inclusion due to the amount of wickets he generated for other bowlers (which obviously don’t show up on his stats).

Who is the greatest fast bowler of the past 40 years?

One of the things people are missing here is, there will be a book, hence Lance is deliberately holding certain information back.

Oprah’s show is the “trailer” (and publicity machine) for the book.

Armstrong admits doping, but mea culpa poses more questions

People are dumb. Without a dodgy headline, none of you would read the article. That’s just called Media manipulation. It’s how it works, folks.

Do doped world records encourage athletes to cheat?

Andrew Gaze was a better basketballer than Michael Jordan.

Is Michael Clarke as good as Bradman?

Jason Gillepsie for me. What a batsman.

Hussey should be considered as one of the greats
