Shute Shield took care of that market. Cutting Penrith and not expanding into the South West handed League 2/3rds of Sydney’s population as a feeder.

Law dealing with the Church’s horrific past only if they managed to get past the blatant attempts to hide offenders

Quote from the Royal Commission
Our case studies demonstrated that it was a common practice of religious institutions to adopt ‘in-house’ responses when dealing with allegations of child sexual abuse. Sometimes there was no response at all. Often, alleged perpetrators were treated with considerable leniency. ‘Inhouse’ responses ensured that allegations remained secret, and shielded religious institutions from public scrutiny or accountability.
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
What is a government if not all you described above.
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
Yup 100%
Russia vetoed the UN’s demand to withdraw their attack in Ukraine.
If it was a right of veto I would Vote No allows way to much self-interest a no room for negotiation
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
Yes but money talks and when a cashed up lobby group get the ear of a Member of Parliament it has often been at the expense of indigenous voices. I don’t have an issue enshrining in law a marginalized group to something the rich and powerful already have.
Otherwise just ban lobby groups altogether
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
They are a publicly facing body that represents their members/employees.
They also make statements / offer financial support to
Disability Sports Australia, Pride in Sport, the Australian Deaf Rugby Team, Women in Sports, Movember foundation.
If 83% of Indigenous Australians support the Voice then isn’t saying no or remaining silent not supporting them
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
“Some Years”
Is glossing over this incredibly embarrassing piece of history.
1949 The right to vote in federal elections was extended to Indigenous people who had served in the armed forces, or were enrolled to vote in state elections. Indigenous people in Queensland, the Northern Territory, and the vast majority in Western Australia still could not vote in their own state/territory elections.
1957 Under the Northern Territory Welfare Ordinance,[12] almost all Indigenous people in the Northern Territory were declared to be “wards of the state” and denied the vote. In 1961, 17,000 people were wards.[13]
1962 Commonwealth Electoral Act provided that Indigenous Australians should have the right to enrol and vote at federal elections, including Northern Territory elections, but enrolment was not compulsory. It was an offence for anyone to use undue influence or bribery to induce Indigenous people to enrol or to refrain from enrolling to vote.
Voter education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people began in the Northern Territory. 1,338 Indigenous Australians enrolled to vote in Northern Territory elections.
Western Australia extended the State vote to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
Yeah they weren’t counted at all, that’s so much better
Meanwhile, section 127 of the constitution had excluded Aboriginal people from being counted for constitutional purposes; they were not included in the populations of states and territories for the purposes of allocating federal seats in Parliament.
Nor were they counted for the purposes of calculating certain Commonwealth grants. The removal of section 127 allowed Aboriginal people to be counted for these purposes.
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
“Yes in Haste”, we’ve had a constitution for over 100 years how long should we wait to include the people who’ve lived here for 50,000?
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
Latest Poll says 83% that’s a pretty significant some

The Wallabies problems started long before Rennie, Joffery. Robbie Deans was the last coach to have a better than 50% win record.
NZ Rugby finally gets their man, and in the process, accidentally gets things right
Purely wishful thinking 😁
But we can dream

Dave Rennie to the Crusaders?

So what would the expectations for the 2024 AB’s be if he was able snare. An assistance coaching panel of Joe Schmidt, Wayne Smith and Jason Ryan. Any experience questions would go out the window real fast.
NZ Rugby finally gets their man, and in the process, accidentally gets things right
For all of the talk about Razor’s lack of international experience. I think the game plan and team management is already there, the Crusaders have had the most Test style game of any “Club” side for years with an ability to pivot depending on opposition missing in most test teams.
Where his transition is going to interesting is. So much of his team building and culture is driven around themes and imagery. When he has the players for a much shorter time frame at the AB’s this messaging and therefore team buy in, is going to be much harder to cultivate.

The free kick is very much used for “unintentional;” law transgressions.
If a Ref decides the rule breaking is intended, then the penalty applies.
So effectively the laws complement each other.
Law variations that will get Super Rugby Pacific moving – and one that won’t make any difference
2023 is going to be a very interesting year in the Crusaders squad, there is an abundance of players who, talentwise are ready to take a leap forward in their careers. But injury, youth or talent log jam has meant 2023 could be the year.
Ethan Blackadder,
Cullen Grace,
Fergus Burke
Braydon Ennor
Leicester Fainga’anuku
Tamati Williams
All have far more talent than their careers have yet to progress to. I pick at least 2 or 3 of them going up a level this year.
The Wrap: Who are the players to watch out for across every Super Rugby franchise?
Some interesting takes in that.
South Africa left super rugby because NZ couldn’t make a format work with Border restrictions due to COVID. Not anyone’s fault really.
Australian Rugby hold Zero answers financially for the NZRU. NZRU is propping up the ARU with TV their rights share not the other way around. Any change to that is decades off if ever.
The long term financial success for NZ Rugby is a Japanese partnership, not one team but a proper 3-4 teams included in SR.
You are 100% right about the coaching situation but glass houses and all that.
Post 2007 player exodus was far worse than this year.
Carl Hayman
Greg Somerville
Anton Oliver
Chris Jack
Keith Robinson
Jerry Collins
Reuben Thorne
Byron Kelleher
Nick Evans
Luke McAlister
Doug Howlett
So whilst 2024 might look tough in some positions it may not be all doom and gloom
A peek under the hood of the New Zealand rugby factory engine
I think a bit like the AB’s at present there are some real positions of depth and talent. But to Win world Cup there are a few to many positions of weakness that can be exploited.
Eddie might be able to turn it around before the RWC but pressure is on.

I hate to say it, but I do feel a lot of the positivity to both him and Marinos is purely based on they are Australian and Men.
If Australia signed a reject from another country that had Eddies record over the last 12 months i.e. Ian Foster the wouldn’t be anything like the same positivity.
Marinos has cut Wallabies wages by 30% and cut a coach with a payout due. If Castle had done the same, she would be vilified.
ANALYSIS: In just 30 minutes Eddie Jones managed what Castle and Rennie couldn't in three years
In 30 minutes he did what former CEO Raelene Castle and head coach Dave Rennie couldn’t do in three years in their respective roles.
You do realise Raylene Castle stood down almost 3 years ago so why has the new bloke not been subjected to this criticism. He has had the same time she had and she is now equally removed from.
Eddie has done exactly nothing yet, so all this hype based on zero facts and runs on the board.
What they have done is sign a coach with a history of struggling after 3 years to a 5 year contract. If fact the England job is the only one has has held for more than 3 years.
He, like Cheika is a genius at short term team building. I just question is that what Australian Rugby need right now.

I think you’ll find Rugby has a long and storied history of changing, dropping and enhancing Laws that either didn’t work, teams found a work around or had unforeseen consequences.
Admittedly for World Rugby it is normally under the PR guise of Law Clarifications.
But local bodies like RFU trail new laws all the time. Bin the rubbish ones and lobby WR to enforce the successful ones.
There are even 2 global trials underway now.

There are dozens of examples of lower grade law variations aimed at making the game safer some will survive many won’t.
'Fabric of the game': Watershed moment as RFU brings in radical tackle change to reduce 'risk of concussion'
Mainly because Govts aren’t liable for the Road toll. If this doesn’t work either by reducing concussions or makes the game unplayable 100% chance RFU will go back a make changes,

The only concern is too many voices. With a new attack coach, and shag there is a definite potential for too much information and conflicting philosophies overloading a team of young and inexperienced players.
