Truly amazing Floyd.

Would you believe I’ve met two Australians who aren’t even remotely interested in AFL.

The mainstream media continues to ignore football

Its mainly a business decision and SBS didn’t pay very much for the FTA rights.

Foxtel ahev to make a buck and they are part owned by News and Telstra, so they were always going to get the best ratersd.

Anyway, the SBS games are free and you can watch them from the comfort of your own loungge.
With AFL and NRL in off-season and the Ashes in the UK and shown overnight, the SBS ratings will still be pretty good.

FFA misses opportunity with FTA coverage

What about an A-League “Country of Origin” or “Country of Ancestry” World Cup.

Scrap the A-League finals and replace it with State of Origin

Wiliams and Carle aren’t even picked in the squad, so not sure how they will get a start. :).

Osieck announces Socceroos squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Not true.
The AFL does not have control of the MCG.

Demetriou said the WC would be the end of the AFL season and demanded 1.1 billion dollars compensation for not playing at the MCG for 8 weeks.

The FFA understandably were not prepared to pay that outrageous ransom and the AFL refused to negotiate any further.

The whole tone of the AFL’s approach was fark you Lowy, while the NRL were happy to give up ANZ Stadium and Lang Park for that period in 12 years time mind you.

The only sportring organisation that refused to cooperate in the spirit of the nations bid was Demetriou and the AFL.
That’s why they are hated by the football family.

A-League now football's backbone: Gallop

I agree we’ve done this topic to death stretching back to 2004 and the start of the A-League and the formation of the Football Federation of Australia.

Australian Rules Football
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football
“Gradually the game—known at first as “Melbourne rules” became “Victorian rules” and then “Australian rules” or “Australasian rules” gained roots in other Australasian colonies”

Are we supporting the Soccerwhos?

Yes but Surname is the striker for the away games.

In Newcastle, history Jets into fashion

Then there are a lot of liars out there.
Enjoy your Melbourne Rules.

Football has never been called Soccer, its always officially known as football and Rugby as Rugby which split into rugby Union and rugby league.

Where’s your evidence?

Are we supporting the Soccerwhos?

Yeah, I think commercial common sense has prevailed and what we get to see we get for free in the comfort of our own lounge room. In the end the FFA needs to make money to keep the competition going and hopefully continue the increase in ratings and crowds.

Sure, if you wanted to be lazy and watch all the best games from your lounge room, but nothing major to criticise there and I think there is only one Fri game per week so you won’t miss any live games if you are an A-League supporter.

A-League 2013-2014 draw unveiled, with FTA considerations

Midfielder,
another example of how the media treats football.

Which “football” is this?
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/shot-after-football-training-man-hit-five-times-20130522-2jzoc.html

You can bet your bottom dollar it isn’t football, because if it was they would say “Shot after Soccer Training”.

Because it was the Mascot Jets Rugby League team, they call it “football” to make people think its “Soccer” and not rugby league peoples who shoot each other.

The mainstream media continues to ignore football

Looks more like Foxtel chose the games, than SBS.

Starts off with a bang and then fizzles a bit. Anyway lets reserve judgement till the season proper and what position BR, AU and MH are in the table at the business end of the season.

Not surprised FFA didn’t let go of any derbies to FTA.
When tickets are hard to get, people buy memberships to make sure they get a seat (that’s the theory anyway.
You can expect a few more derby sellouts, so the clubs and FFA want you to buy memberships to make sure you don’t miss out.

Anyway, all looks positive and we are getting live games and a highlights package every week for free.

Best way to see the games is live.

What A-League matches should be on Friday night FTA?

Nah, that was Christian Name who signed for SFC.

In Newcastle, history Jets into fashion

They are green and brown camouflage kits – they lie down on the grass so that no one notices them and then jump up and score a goal when no one is looking.

Brilliant!

In Newcastle, history Jets into fashion

Yes Dave,
thanks for pointing that out, but still getting the gist of what I was saying.

Finals sometimes don’t live up to the expectations, but I think this one is going to be a great final with plenty of action and goals.

Where are the champions in the Champions League?

Put your money where your mouth is David and come along to the Socceroos games with a few of your mates, especially the Sydney one.
See you there.

One thing that could ruin everything for me is if Tom Waterhouse becomes the major sponsor of SBS A-League Friday Night Live and joins the panel to give updates on the live odds.

I can’t stand that guy and he has turned me off watching the NRL on Friday nights.

How can we stop this guy if he does, because I really want to support the A-League and SBS and make this a success.

What A-League matches should be on Friday night FTA?

Hadn’t heard that PF and would be interested in more details.

Are we supporting the Soccerwhos?

Barneybuck
the game was called Melbourne Rules for its first 50 years and then Victorian Rules for the next 50.

They changed the name to Australian Rules to try and get national appeal and then Australian Football League to try and get wider appeal – it was a marketing ploy.

The AFL stole the name “football” from the English, who have used that name since the middle ages and the AFL have no valid claim to the term football.

The game is Melbourne Rules.

Are we supporting the Soccerwhos?

Geez, there are 27 rounds and 3 weeks of finals so we will get to see over 30 games on SBS FTA.

What A-League matches should be on Friday night FTA?

Fussball
I think you’ll find Foxtel revenues are based on subs and advertising – they don’t show ads for free.

The advertising charge is based on the reach or rating, so the higher the rating the higher the revenue and they have a conflict of interest in that regard when deciding on which games to allow to SBS for FTA.

What A-League matches should be on Friday night FTA?

Adelaide is a good case in point, but SBS have said they will only be doing the “East Coast” teams live on a Friday night, even though as you rightly say, Brisbane is 1 hour behind, while Adelaide is only half an hour.

The Season fixture list comes out about lunch time tomorrow and will be interesting to see what games we get on FTA.

I guess we can still watch our choice of any A-League game live on Foxtel or the bowling club down the road 🙂

Terrace Australis is born

Are we supporting the Soccerwhos?

David Gallop doesn’t think it will be a disaster either.
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1152616/Gallop-not-sweating-on-Socceroos

He refers to the A-League as the backbone of the FFA’s operations.

Are we supporting the Soccerwhos?

David Beckham called it soccer once too.

Most of the time he calls it football, but you can call it whatever you like.

Are we supporting the Soccerwhos?

Get off your Bayern hobby horse.
Are you trying to say the final will be so one sided it will be boring?

Dortmund have won the last 2 BL titles and beat most of the best teams in Europe over 2 legs to get there.
Like the ACL, the ECL teams qualified on last season’s results.
This is a one off game at Wembley stadium. Anything will happen.

What about Bayern the hot favourites for last year’s ECL beaten by Chelsea. Couldn’t score a goal at their home ground.
