John (Dinga?) The media at the time says it was jerky at the point of release but if u see this YouTube video – Cricket Highlights 1899-1938 (WG Grace, Ranji…) at 7:21 mark u can see him bowl.
Remember he had a stump for index finger which he could impart more spin on the ball. Maybe front on, it could off putting and jerky.
Also he could take new ball and bowl left arm slow medium swingers ala colin Miller in early 2000s

I think you missed the obvious reason. Too and Critta play on Penrith right, but played on the left for NSW. Fittler wanted the mismatch of Turbo vs Hammer but Cleary rarely passed it that way.
If NSW had Too and Critta out there, they might have gone right more often vs Fifita and Hammer and Hynes wouldn’t have missed the 1v1 against Munster, drawing in JAC.
Just poor coaching by Fittler
