The Australian give the game far more coverage than deserved. Pretty sure that is universal across Australian media outlets. Union has become unpopular because Australians do not like the game as much as other games. Not because the media chokes the game as in UK. I think you probably know that.

NRL in talks about buying stake in Super League

Well I can tell you that the teams lack of heart is an insult. Maybe the old Newcastle is dead. The hard heads. The never say die attitude. Replaced by a softer cohort of cafe workers.

What do the Newcastle Knights mean to the town - and their fans?

I predicted it. Why? Because he has been playing rubbish for weeks. Like the rest of The Knights mainstay pack bar Mann.

How can Brad Fittler justify dropping David Klemmer for Origin?

Every year at finals time a story like this is released. Ask Kenny Dowell and Reynolds how it feels to be judged by the media and for their manipulative false accusers never to face any punishment. In a week of at least half a dozen AFL players being caught doing various objectionable things the media just shuts up. Is Sam guilty? No idea. But be asured, whilst false accusers continue to be supported by the media and slimy lawyers these stories will keep happening and lives will be destroyed. Guilty or not. And the false accusers will never be held accountable.

The Sam Burgess coverage typifies rugby league's negative media portrayal

Absolutely. As a supporter from before the club was formed, there has been a change in the town which is reflected in the team. From blue collar to barrister.

Newcastle addresses inconsistency by simply moving it up the table

The feckless SL should have stepped in three months ago and upgraded the Wolfpack contract to reflect the extraordinary circumstances. Pathetic.

Toronto Wolfpack players: 'We haven't been paid for months'

Right wing, left wing, blah blah. Neo liberal economics from both sides sold out the west and the working class (whom the self proclaimed Marxists usually hate) have been copping it ever since. Maoists seem a bigger problem and we sold out to them too for $.

The only colour the democrats and the Republicans care about is the colour of your money. Similar here with labour and liberal although Morrison seems to be treading carefully ATM.

Character, merit and truth (truth in that he believes what he says ) are what matters and Izzy has those in buckets.

Capitalism has faults. Democracy has faults. Christianity has faults. Yet people want to get to western nations. Why?

There are many truths being closed down (more so) by the so called left. Discussion is not allowed if you ask people to look at the bigger picture of how other cultures have operated and wish to see the west operated and are making ground. Then we will all know what slavery is.

And go The Knights

Folau courts more controversy

Great story. Mate and I had been hoping he would get the 5/8 position this year and he is one of thier best every week. Congratulations on being rewarded finally for your hard work Kurt.

The Knights have finally found the final piece of their puzzle

The Wallabies have been grabbing NRL talent for years rather than developing their own. Had there been no union/league split, the Wallabies would have been world championships for most of the past 120 years.

Can the All Blacks play rugby league?

Rugby split from soccer. Rugby could have challenged soccer as the biggest code, but chose not to and let hundreds of working class clubs leave the union and play soccer.
Rugby then split in England, US, Canada and Australia to have rugby league, American football, Canadian football and Australian Football. Soccer remained soccer.

Can the All Blacks play rugby league?

I see there are 8 on the bench for union and only 4 in league. So fitness remains a union problem. Always was. That’s one reason why they wanted the northerners out the game.

A lot of posts from union blokes worried about league boys tackling too hard, yet others claim they will destroy the league boys.

League remains light years ahead in attack, defence and general skills of passing and catching at speed. This is why nobody from union is ever asked to coach league teams, while hordes of league coaches are still sought in union.

You would have thought decades of professionalism would have seen the union boys catch on. Talk about slow learners.

As for the comment about league copying union back in 1895: they were union players wanting to play the game they loved rather than going off to join soccer like hundreds of working class rugby union clubs did at the time.

League has dragged union out of the dark ages whilst they continue kicking and screaming all the way. The Allblacks have the luxury of rugby league exposure and this will help. Kangaroos by 50 if the rules are as stated earlier.

A cross-code All Blacks vs Kangaroos match could happen this year

You can be bigoted about anything. The games will always suffer from its working class roots, for working class roots should be dug up and poisoned before they get too uppity.

Why is classism accepted when it comes to rugby league?

This is true and increasingly so. Rugby League expects to be kicked in the guts because it always has been. Except maybe from 92_ 95. Other codes are jealous of the masculine nature of the game. Anytime rugby league goes up against other sports we win. Boxing, Australia’s greatest athlete etc. The next day the media have to do a four page spread to cover their wounds. Can you imagine an NRL player turned coach stalking a women in women’s clothes? None of these feel sorry stories about how tough it is being an NRL player or coach. It would be lock him up and disband the game. Never going to change. Except V’landys? Maybe. Fort head honcho standing up for the game in a very long time.

Why is classism accepted when it comes to rugby league?

The bagging of rugby league has been going on since it’s inception and will continue unabated. Lost count of the number of transgressions by NRL players that are dealt with far more (sometimes 10 or 20 times) more harshly than the AFL for similar behaviour. Read The Australian comments from the Rugby Union paper. The Working Class are able to do stuff rather than talk stuff and this irks many. They are also more likely to think for themselves and not suck up when the rest will. They will die for their country and their mates and are hated for it.

Why is classism accepted when it comes to rugby league?

Loving Y’landys. Isn’t it great having a leader who stands up for the game. Even tells the AFL to get stuffed.

"There's a contract in place": V'landys hoses down Nine speculation

At last some common sense. Finally Andrew Johns will get his greatest wish; to wipe out 6 of the club’s and hand all those territories to the AFL. Obviously something 9 has been toying with for years.

Time to let Channel Nine run rugby league

At no time. You are the one saying this. He continues to say he will follow whatever rules are put in place by any and all authorities.

A message to the big leagues: Don't play until we all can

Many have told spruce these simple things. He does not or pretends to not understand.

Gus predicts season wipe-out

Thank God for sanity. Too many (supposed) bloke’s being hysterical. Bad role models.

All NRL teams can stay in NSW: Police

Over 90% of workers are still working. Get a grip.

A message to the big leagues: Don't play until we all can

Emotional responses to this pandemic are unhelpful. Everyone should be trying to work and play as much as possible. Only an extra 5% of workers have stopped working. Your argument is that everyone should stop because a minority has. Childish.

A message to the big leagues: Don't play until we all can

I am seeing grown men carrying on like babies. Lock up and look after the weak and needy and let the rest of us live life. I am a frontline worker. Stop the hysteria.

A message to the big leagues: Don't play until we all can

Great post Greg.

A message to the big leagues: Don't play until we all can

Unemployment has risen by 5%. This means most workers are still working. The NRL are willing to go beyond what most workplaces are doing to get the game up and running and get thier workers working. That is the job of the NRL.

A message to the big leagues: Don't play until we all can

I want my kids seeing people get stuff done rather than sitting around waiting for someone to do it for them.
