With less than three months to go until the start of the Wallabies' 2019 campaign and no attack coach named, alarm bells are beginning…
Love the team Pete.
Would be good to see CLL and White partner each other in the halves again.
You really think Toomua has a more varied game than Foley? Although I despise Foley, and agree that Toomua is a far better defender – Foley is a better passer and kicker than Toomua and probably plays better at 12 than Toomua does at 10.
The changes the Wallabies need to make to beat Argentina
I think we’re being a little harsh on Fainga’a and our jumpers. Sure, the forwards didn’t provide much go forward in attack or oompf in defense, but the lineout was incredibly strong.
Wallabies player ratings from Rugby Championship opener vs Springboks
Funny how a player goes overseas and we forget all their previous blunders. He might not leave his wing to compete for a ruck ball, but that doesn’t mean his wing defence hasn’t also been incompetent at times. Game 1 of the Bledisloe in 2013 is a good example.
Six talking points from Wallabies vs Springboks
Agreed. Quade can also execute a flat attack. Seems odd that the game plan almost seems to be built around Cooper… wonder if we might see him feature in the green and gold this year after all. I’d hazard a guess though that CLL will get the nod next week.
Six talking points from Wallabies vs Springboks
I think JOC will have the same struggles as DHP and Hodge. None of them are genuine wingers and O’Connor certainly doesn’t have the pace he once did.
Six talking points from Wallabies vs Springboks
Great article, I wholeheartedly agree. Those silly offloads were costly. Seemed to me like the game plan, was similar that to the Melbourne Rebels flat attack – makes sense with Shaun Berne as the attack coach. However, it was poorly executed by Foley, and while I felt he was he a solid game, he doesn’t have the passing ability or the vision to execute such a game plan as the sole playmaker. We will have to go back to the drawing board next week… or bring back Quade?

So was Foley – amazing how Giteau can make subpar players look good
Returning veterans headline the first Wallabies squad of 2019
Don’t think he was being considered for the SA tour due to his late signing with RA. I’d expect he’ll make a return in Brisbane against the Pumas

Both Todd and Cane are fetchers though – compare their turnover stats to Hopper. They’d both eat him alive in that category.

Quade is playing behind a soft Rebels forward pack… easy to look good when you’re CLL or Foley with the tahs and Brumbies power up front

Genia gets in on past form… he was always going to struggle behind the rebels pack this season

AAC hasn’t played a good game for the Wallabies since 2013… time to move on – we’ve got plenty of great midfielders in Australia

Eh, no one from Leinster? Their club has an average attendance of 17,000 per match… Tadhg Furlong, James Ryan, James Lowe, Johnny Sexton etc. These are the players fans go to see on a rainy 2 degree Dublin night.
The 2019 World Club Rugby XV selection
The hatred for Deans wasn’t without reason – he did drop Giteau from his World Cup squad and played O’Connor at 10 for the Lions tour.
In terms of the Australian backs stocks, we certainly have the players to mix it with the best. A Kerevi and Kurindrani centre pairing would challenge Wales’ Davies and Parkes and Ireland would kill for our options in the back three given our abundance of talent there – DHP, KB, Banks, Marika, Maddox, Sefa, Pulu and Speight are good examples. Hard to argue too, that Genia isn’t world class…
ROG and roll: Why the Wallabies need O’Gara
I completely agree – but it sounds like ROG is on his way out of NZ anyway. But it certainly can’t hurt the resume to have a season of international experience, particularly when you’re taking a job with zero expectation.
ROG and roll: Why the Wallabies need O’Gara
And Cheika took Australia to a World Cup final in 2015. Picking people and players on past form is the Wallabies’ achilles heel.

ROG and roll: Why the Wallabies need O’Gara
Yes, would be very interesting to see Meakes at 13 – as he played most of his rugby in England there. Could potentially be an option for the rest of the season with QC at 10 and Toomua at 12. Hodge to the wing and Marika to the bench.
Super Rugby Round 14 teams: Quade Cooper cleared to face Bulls; three changes for Tahs
We still didn’t make it past the quarters of that World Cup though…
