What is the opposite to Cooper?
Haven’t seen anywhere Thorn saying that Cooper is a bad trainer or poor team player?
Thorns decision is that he isnt the flyhalf he wants – full stop.
Hunt free to return for Reds
I wonder what the Thorn / Hunt relationship was like in their playing days together… 3 seasons and 1 Premiership
Might hold him in good stead?
Hunt free to return for Reds
+1
Still trying to confirm that there will now be 16 in the squad and not 15 – it has been a squad of 15 the past 2 World Cups – 16 would be nice – would like them to be able to take a Darcy Short or Weatherald…
Aussie players who will miss the 2019 cricket World Cup
Coulter Nile is also a player that does come well and truly into the reckoning – you would imagine once he comes back from injury he will be presented more opportunities. Ashton Turner probably hasnt had the chances to showcase his ability yet as you stated – every chance he will be in the mix, though Agar is probably ahead of him in the selectors eyes.
Who's on the plane to England for the 2019 World Cup?
Agree on Bailey – Ive always liked him, likewise Cameron White – it’s probably more their stocks in the selectors eyes are waning. Id like to see Jimmy Faulkner given anther opportunity, he too seems to have fallen by the wayside and way down the pecking order.
Who's on the plane to England for the 2019 World Cup?
Thanks James,
I think we will see a bit of shuffling across the next 12 months, will be interesting to see how it settles. It doesnt seem outside the realms of possibility Warner dropping down order and utilising a Carey or dare I say a Maxwell in those positions.
Selectors could painting themselves into a corner by resting a top line player to give opportunities, that player performs better than the resting player… would be a nice problem to have however.
I feel like Khawaja is one that if given an opportunity would most definitely give the selectors some headaches.
Who's on the plane to England for the 2019 World Cup?
Hi Eddie,
Was wondering where you had found that the squad size is 16 and not 15?
I was under impression the tournament only allowed for squads of 15.
My 16-man squad for the 2019 cricket World Cup
World Cup squad is usually 15 not 16 – or has it changed for 2019?
My 16-man squad for the 2019 cricket World Cup
Ie beginning of May? Would love to see him back in the Red jersey!
What’s the top priority for our Super Rugby sides?
Thank Brett!
It is hard for me to stay optimistic for so long as a Red supporter but we can only hope!
IF George Smith is ruled out with this back injury, is Liam Gill any chance of coming home from Lyon?
Doesn’t his contract end there at end of European season?
What’s the top priority for our Super Rugby sides?
No need to wonder.
I will explain.
Having grown up with a Kiwi father (from Auckland) who is like the majority of Kiwis a passionate follower of the All Blacks (and his beloved yet frustrating Auckland Blues) I seem to have inherited the love of rugby,
This includes taking great enjoyment watching not only my beloved yet frustrating Reds, but all things rugby. I will admit I have taken great joy watching Quade Cooper in his prime, not unlike my similar happiness watching the likes of Carlos Spencer, Christian Cullen et al.
I can be accused of defending Quade Cooper and also questioning Brad Thorn and the QRU’s decision to sideline him this season (if that is actually what ends up happening!). I have had the fortune to meet this young man on a few occasions and indirectly have witnessed the work he has done off the field. At the same time remembering his earlier indescretions and behaviour, I was indeed impressed with his behaviour and in particular his treatment of the kids, our valuable future for the game. So I defend Quade but I do it only for the love of rugby as I am staggered by the decision. Many of the comments here that attack his character and his off field ‘influence’ are unfounded and typical tall poppy muck.
That is why I am on this thread.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
Sorry I wrote poorly so the error is of course mine.
Deans was Head Coach between 2000 and 2008.
Thorn played under hime 2001-2004 and upon his return from the Broncos in 2008.
So still I am almost 100% they crossed paths at some time.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
Confused Jacko – are you agreeing with me or not?
Pretty sure Cooper didnt miss a tackle on the Spring Tour.
Michael Chieka’s coaching is not being debated here – although his treatment of Cooper has been indeed questionable.
As to whether he should have been named Coach of the Year in 2015 – I am sure he would trade the award gladly for a night with the Bledisloe. It’s probably the Coach’s equivalent of winning the Truancy prize at school.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
As above – as soon as Richard Graham left Cooper had one foot back on the plane to Brisvegas.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
He went to France on the back of the Reds not having the balls to sack Richard Graham at the conclusion of the previous season – instead giving him their full ‘backing’ only to sack him later in the season. We lost Liam Gill for the same reason.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
So what you are saying is if the Reds have any technical deficiencies Thorn should just let them work it out for themselves if they are classified as experienced professionals? What, pray tell is the definition of experienced professional.
With this in mind perhaps the Wallabies do not need a coach at all – they are ‘experienced professionals’.
I thought Jim Byrne was employed to work on basic skills for these ‘experienced professionals’?
Re Foley – correct he isn’t carded (I make a point not to watch too many Tahs games – he may have been) – but if you think his defence is better than Quade’s you didn’t watch any of the spring tour.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
They make valid points, however my point is that to completely cut him from the squad doesn’t make sense. Surely that would be preferable to dumping him completely – in the fashion it has been done.
A big slap to a player, love him or hate him, that has been loyal to the Reds when others have jumped ship.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
No interest from me.
I’m sure Wynne was a booer.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
Jacko,
How did that go for Chieka? Foley was average on the spring tour and with Beale starting had no impact off the bench in any test match. It was a poor selection.
Regarding Robbie Deans and Brad Thorn, I don’t no much about Dingoes coaching technique, but I am pretty sure the Head Coach of the Crusaders between 2000-2008 would have met one of his forwards somewhere across the 5 seasons Thorn (2001-2204 then back 2008-2011) played under him?
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
I agree 50% – if Thorn is going to be the saviour – a good coach would be able to work on these defensive issues? He is 29 years old and wouldn’t be the first player to work on their defence?
His goal kicking and defence were the original points of difference that Michael Cheika highlighted between QC and BF. When it became evident that BF was deficient in the same areas the company line became ‘Quade and I have had a chat and we just want him to go away and work on a few things’. Now he doesn’t even rate a mention from Cheika at press conferences. We are beating everyone in the world so Cheika does not need to explain his actions to anyone north of the border.
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
I’m not sure what the other options are !
I think it’s a pretty electric back 3 – he’s a bit in the Chris Latham mould, however would like him to work on his tactical kicking (or just kicking in general??)
