Oh in that case it would have to be called the Blasphemy Brawl

AFL News: Tassie go back to the future with team name, Blues star out 'indefinitely' but teammate to return

Cool. Now there should be a fun nickname for when the Demons play the Devils. Calling it Pandemonium after the capital of Hell in Paradise Lost might be a bit too literary and esoteric. Since the league was fortunate with one copyright holder maybe we can go for two and name it Hell in a Cell?

In a professional and public setting? Yeah probably not something a mature adult should do

AFL News: Clarkson apologises for 'emotional' 'c--ksucker' spray, Webster facing lengthy ban

In any other level of the sport that would be a straight red card and I’m not even sure the coach would bother giving the player a spray for being so stupid. Hopefully Simpkin is ok but he should probably not play round 1 even if he passes the tests. He had two concussions last year

So? That presumes that playing international sport is an important part their thinking.

And if it is important why wouldn’t they choose cricket a sport where international competition is year-round

10 reasons league and union should merge to become One Rugby - and give AFL nightmares

Eggshell skull rulings would argue that it is Maynard’s fault that Brayshaw has to retire now. His bump is certainly the most proximate cause.

COMMENT: Angus Brayshaw's retirement isn't Brayden Maynard's fault - it's the AFL's

Jeez. People are such grumps.

Gilly was excited for his friend and colleague. That’s healthy.

Patty probably is going to be critical but in the team meetings and post match reviews where the feedback can be digested rather than seeming like public whinging. That’s mature

‘Why are you barracking against your team?’ Old keepers up in arms over Gilly cheering Windies and Cummins too nice

Also it seems to be a bit of cherry picking good results. For every Steve Waugh who turned into an all-time great with more time there’d be others who never become anything more than a mediocre player who could be replaced with a dozen others.

Test Mortem: Green’s golden status fading as batting unit becomes fragile, Windies need help to kick on from Gabba glory

I feel like having a match/series against Australia would probably have solved a lot of those financial reasons. As would a match or series against India

Shamar's a superstar: Windies rookie destroys Australia with all-time great spell to break 27-year drought in cliffhanger

It’s pretty sad that Ireland have had Test status for 7 years but still haven’t played Australia. I know there’s some tensions with Afghanistan but there’s no reason it’s taken this long to play Ireland

Shamar's a superstar: Windies rookie destroys Australia with all-time great spell to break 27-year drought in cliffhanger

An excellent performance from an inspired West Indies team. Shemar Joseph wasn’t even born the last time they won in Australia. An excellent game and I hope the sign of a rejuvenation of West Indies test cricket

Damn it. I hate it when the Bulldogs do something right.

Oh boy. There’s going to be some real normal reactions to Patty’s comments

That’s some real White Man’s Burden reasoning there

Yeah Hazelwood definitely needs to be replaced. Patty is in amazing form but needs more help from the rest of the pace attack.

Cummins cleans up again but Pakistan recover from collapse with wagging tail frustrating Aussies

See I would have said Warne had the most controversial legacy in cricket. However he has received only hagiography since his death so I guess not anymore.

David Warner: the most complicated legacy in Australian cricket history

Why not say most successful? Also winningest is a superlative. Adding most is superfluous. You wouldn’t say most wealthiest.

Self-entitled Manchester United: Red Devils owed nothing as the football world laps up their pathetic decline

I’m sorry but “certainly the most winningest” is a terrible sentence fragment. Winningest means most.

Why would him doing both not ring hollow? What would make that not virtue signalling? What makes what you’re doing not virtue signalling?

Someone commenting on a news piece on a sports website that someone should do something to prove their virtues definitely would qualify as virtue signalling though.

Copeland is right. It doesn’t matter if the ball hits the ground after coming into the control of the fielder. It only matters if the ground helps the fielder take the catch.

Yes they do. Famously the South African flag changed from the old apartheid flag to one including the colours of the ANC after Mandela was elected.
