I would say, if you are concerned about losing $10, then don’t do it. Yes, gambling is a gamble. Guessing it’s where the name came from.

ANALYSIS: Schuster and Turbo fire Manly's attack as defence gets overhaul but not all doom and gloom for Eels

I think if Gutherson kicks last night, Parra win, or at least go to golden point.

I hope so as well WCE. Go the Mighty Eagles.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions Round 1: Who's good and who sucks? Let the battle begin

Absolute rubbish

The Storm have pretty decent gates at every home match and have one of the highest memberships in the competition. Myself and many other Storm fans follow then avidly. Add to that the fact that I cannot stand any aspect of AFL and wouldn’t watch it if you paid me.

The point is that the Storm have created a foothold for rugby league in Victoria. It will never ever be big, it is highly unlikely that it will ever get anywhere near AFL but it is a foothold and should be an important one that is satisfying a need. Would it be better if they had their own local juniors ?, of course it would but that does not undermine their importance in the slightest.

The AFL has developed strategic plans for dominating Australian sport and has had them for decades. They are very well managed, strategic and well funded. They are doing that because they have too because they know that they will never expand outside of this country and they know that the NRL have all the strategic nous of a two year old.

Those who cannot remember past NRL expansion errors are condemned to repeat them

In the event of a draw ,Play 5 minutes each way,
3 points to winner, 1 point to loser

Should make ladder more interesting

AFL News: Bomber's injury scare hours after contract extension, Blues legend slammed over son's 100th game snub

While it may be necessary to split teams after a draw in finals games, I don’t feel the same way as people who think extra time should be played following a draw during the home and away season. While players may feel that it’s disappointing for a club to draw and receive two points rather than snatch a win and gain four points, it’s a whole lot better than a pointless loss. Unlike soccer, draws in AFL are inevitably much higher scoring affairs and occur much more infrequently throughout the year, and even more rarely within the same competition round. Both Carlton and Richmond are going to feel a whole lot better about themselves after half the teams playing in the remaining games in Round 1 will commence Round 2 below them on the competition ladder. Both Carlton and Richmond are highly rated so that they could conceivably still finish around the same position on the competition ladder at season’s end. This means that the need to build percentage isn’t necessarily out of the equation if Carlton and Richmond are in contention against one another for either the same finals berth or a double chance in finals. When you are thirsty for success, a glass half full (or half- empty, if you look on the pessimistic side) will keep you going until you are able to procure a full glass to quench the thirst.

I honestly believe that if the Roosters get belted by south’s tonight , their season is finished .
The game might even be over by half time.
If they’re competitive or win it’s a very different situation.
The mental side of being pumped again will eat at them , and Robbo will have a massive challenge ahead of him if that’s the case .
What I saw last year was a coach that had lost the playing group at times and they appeared to do stupid things at will throughout the year
If they get stomped tonight , I reckon it’s time for robbo to move on.

Well the mighty Eagles will win and stick it to the the so called tippers. The Eagles still have a good side. The Eagles by 30points.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions Round 1: Who's good and who sucks? Let the battle begin

Yes, but you are probably only considering the three pillars that make your world go ’round.

Attendance, Broadcasting and gambling sponsors.

The most crucial unlock for the ALeagues is transfer money, its a $7bn pool and growing. More games, more pathways, more high-quality transfers.

Hardly

Warner warning: Candice confident David can defy critics to finish stellar career with a bang

There would only be twilight games in Perth anyway to cater for the East coast.

Not sure how many players though will want to fly the red eye after a match… In economy.

Agree with everyone else. The Netball season starts this week, The Football World Cup is coming in July. There are real womens sports to cover. Alternatively if you must talk to Candice then ask why her and her husband are delusional regarding his form.

Maybe its a paid peice for the Back Page but Candice doesn’t encourage me to watch it

Yeah, it’s an idea that simply reeks of: “we definitely don’t want to pay for the prodigious full time security detail that is absolutely required for our players and family in PNG, so would rather cut the costs and pay just for 2 days a week and put them all up in a hotel”.

Aye….Luxury !

Ohh well, we need to wait until Davy Warner tells us he will retire in spite of his lack of performance.

The question is, can Australia do better with someone else?

Australian cricket owes nothing to these people. They owe everything they have to cricket. That’s the reality.

Woodart, Rugby is on the decline in Fiji, walk the streets of Suva and the kids are wearing NRL jerseys/shirts. Super Rugby doesn’t resonate with the young as much as the NRL now does. The decline of International Rugby in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga (courtesy of the poaching, particularly NZ) has weakened the hold the sport once had.

Super Rugby Comp is already a cooked turkey, results seemingly don’t matter. Not when eight out of 12 teams make the playoffs. Not when you can lose nearly all your games and the last three games of the season determines final positions. There is no playoff race and nothing to talk about other than who might make the All Blacks or Wallabies. Whereas, the NRL is full of intriguing stories and rivalries that matter. No one in the wider Australian sporting landscape really cares who wins between Rebels and Brumbies but Souths vs Roosters can still elicit a response from someone in Victoria.

It’s very much like the cultural change in Jamica happening now with the young invested in the NBA and the older parent/grandparent generation still clinging to Cricket.

NRL is the future and Super Rugby is the past. I don’t expect the Super Rugby competition in it’s current form to last much longer and I actually like Rugby. But as I always say, Rugby is a 19th Century game trying to compete and entertain in the 21st Century. It’s failure to resolve the original Union/League split has left the game boxed in with archaic rules that even the hardest core Rugby fan has trouble understanding or interpreting.

It’s different in Europe as there is less competition domestically and the history and tradition overrides the quality of play, even though the current 6 nations tournament has been one of the best in recent years for quality rugby play. In Australia it’s vastly different and even a World Cup win won’t necessarily be the silver bullet to resurrect the game as many Rugby fans hope.

Those who cannot remember past NRL expansion errors are condemned to repeat them

If the NRL want to grow the game in Australia the last frontier would be Perth. They had a small taste and they drew reasonable crowds. Now the NRL have to go all in. WA Bears has a nice ring to it and works well with the colours similar to the States colours. It combines a sentimental historic favourite with the new. I think it would be a success.

The Pasifika team won’t work unless massive tax-payer funds are diverted to the organisation. There isn’t the infrastructure, the economy, the corporate support for a club to survive and thrive in either Fiji or PNG and not to mention the corruption issues that plague island societies. Just see the Fiji Rugby as a prime example.

A comment on how the AFL actively and maliciously sticks its oar in to damage football at a micro level.

A local club in my area had an artificial pitch put in a few years ago. The AFL leaned on the local counsel (I know people in Council who KNOW this happened) to make the ground duel purpose. There are those silly looking sticks and its pointlessly round. There is a football club there (office and change-rooms where the NPL juniors play), no AFL club (they have two massive club grounds within a few kms).

No-one goes there to kick a footy ever and they never will, the pitch is hard as a rock, entirely unsuited to AFL. But the shape of the thing means that they can never put any kind of stands up, which impacts the ability of the club to find the space to grow (areas for spectators, a canteen etc). You can only imagine that the AFL did it out of pure spite, smirking in back-rooms.

With Canberra and Auckland slated for expansion, the A-League's future is bright

Take it from someone who was there at the time. The VFL had one or two employees, the league boss was volunteering his time and they other club presidents also were doing it for free.
Most of the VFL blokes were there at best on a semi pro basis. And some would say that was better, because then they could build careers outside of the sport.
As for your conspiracy, what a load of nonsense. I went to a school that produced plenty of VFL/AFL players, cricketers, golfers, boxers and even the odd soccer player. We played all sports, and I wish we played more Aussie rules to be honest.

Crappy game with a lot of mistakes, turnovers, ball mishandling. It looks like one practice game is not enough.

Close game made it interesting.

Tigers were better for much of the game but could not covert. I thought they were missing KPDs (Tarrant, Gibcus) as McKay and C. Curnow caused them troubles. Midfield with new additions is still building synergy.

I thought Carlton defence stood up pretty well except that last mark by Lynch. Too much dumping to forward line to my liking. TDK still showing only glimpses.

I would give it 5 games to assess teams properly.

A few others to mention:

1. Jaxson Paulo
2. Souths junior Paul Momerovski
3. Souths juniors Nate & Egan Butcher
4. Daniel Suluka Fifita

Feud for thought: The best players who've lined up for Rabbitohs and Roosters in NRL era

Hope it was just ring rust, but both teams can say that. Fact is we choked. Again. Other teams will know it. Us fans will know it. Worse still, Carlton knows it.

Saad has been our best recruit since Judd. Williams, Martin and Gov have been complete busts and Cerra only average. Not a good strike rate.

Here’s hoping for a good next couple of months.
