Argentina, despite having no current NBA players on their roster, have come away with some monumental upsets throughout the tournament.

Their best has ben former NBA power forward Luis Scola, who had 28 points and 13 rebounds in Friday night’s stunning semi-final victory over France.

He will need to be at his best again, working with the guard combination of Facundo Campazzo and Nicolas Brussino if the South American nation are to have a chance of taking out the gold.

While the 14-point semi-final win over France, who had come off a stunning quarter-final win over the USA themselves was a surprise, Argentina had earlier beaten Nigeria and Serbia.

Spain come into the match full of confidence, although potentially slightly fatigued.

After a successful run through the tournament where they didn’t run into any of the big guns, they arrived at a huge semi-final against Australia on Friday.

However, with Marc Gasol leading the way, they came away with a come from behind double-overtime victory in what was one of the more thrilling games you’ll see in international basketball.

While Spain got the job done, they were heavily reliant on their shooting down the stretch and the work in the paint of Marc Gasol, who is likely to be matched up by the in-form Scola in this semi-final.

The battle in the paint promises to be a pivotal one in deciding the final outcome of this game, but even then, Spain, through players like Ricky Rubio, Willy Hermangomez and Rudy Fernandez, have so many weapons on the floor.

Prediction
Argentina certainly aren’t without a chance here, but you have to wonder where their surprising run of upsets comes to an end, and it shoud realistically be right here. Spain just have too much across the floor for them.
