With the 2019 AFL draft in the rearview mirror and club lists finalised for 2020, we decided – despite overwhelming popular opinion – that it’s not at all too early to start speculating about the season ahead.

So, we got Roar AFL expert and editor Josh Elliott on the Game of Codes podcast to look at the winners and losers from the AFL draft, before casting our eyes ahead to 2020 and making a call on who’s set to rise and fall on the ladder next season.

We start out in the draft, where we look at which clubs struck gold and which ones struck out. Was Carlton’s audacious bidding on academy picks worth the hassle in the end? Which draft sliders are set to prove their doubters wrong?

Then, it’s onto some premature 2020 talk. Which finals sides are at risk of falling out of the eight and who’s set to take their place? Can Geelong back their strong 2019 form up without Tim Kelly, or was the spluttering second half to last season enough to prove they’re off the pace?

Listen to the discussion in the player above.
