Some of the Australia’s best young talent will be on display when the Queensland Bulls host the Western Warriors in the tenth round of the Sheffield Shield. Join The Roar for live scores from 10:30am (AEDT).

It has only been a couple of weeks since these teams last met, with Western Australia edging a thrilling game by just 24 runs.

It was a memorable match for the batsmen, with each side having three separate players make centuries, the largest being a sensational 171 from the Warriors’ Cameron Bancroft.

Bancroft didn’t manage to edge into the Test side over the summer, but has only strengthened his position, as he now sits second on the leading run-scorers chart, with only Ben Dunk in front of him.

On all the three occasions this season where Bancroft has reached fifty he has continued on to make his hundred. It is therefore crucial that Queensland remove the opener early on.

Queensland certainly have the bowlers to achieve this, having dismissed Victoria for 147 and 127 in the previous round.

The two liveliest with the ball in that game are Queensland’s leading wicket-takers for the season, James Hopes and Jack Wildermuth.

While Hopes is more than 14 years Wildermuth’s senior, there are certain similarities in their style – both bowl at a seemingly unthreatening pace, but are also great manipulators of the bowl.

If the Gabba pitch is remotely similar to the one served up to Victoria, the Bulls duo will be a difficult task for the Western Australia batsmen.

However, that is not to say there aren’t Warriros who will similarly benefit from the seam-friendly conditions.

While Western Australia have a strong and varied bowling line up, they have one stand out in Joel Paris.

In his debut first-class season, Paris is second in the leading wicket-takers chart, despite having only played six of the nine games.

Fresh in the Queenslanders’ minds will be the four-wicket haul Paris took in the last game the teams played. Paris only came in on the third day, in bizarre circumstances, as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile.

He may be the most pressing threat to Queensland, but both sides have enough depth to ensure they do not need to rely on any one individual.

Prediction
The conditions in Brisbane are likely to favour Queensland, granting them the advantage.
