Chris Lynn and Tanveer Sangha have both been overlooked for the official Big Bash team of the tournament, which was announced by the league on Thursday morning.

The team, which is voted on by the coaches of the eight teams, features an opening partnership of Alex Hales and Josh Philippe – the competition’s two leading run-scorers – with Ben McDermott at three, Colin Munro at four and Glenn Maxwell at five. The top four were all unanimous selections by the coaches, as was fast bowler Jhye Richardson.

That leaves Brisbane captain Lynn out of the side, even though his 420 runs left him behind only Hales and Philippe in the top-scorers chart, and his strike-rate of 157 was good enough for sixth in the comp. He was ahead of all of McDermott, Munro and Maxwell on both measures.

Dan Christian, whose big hitting late in innings was a key factor in the Sydney Sixers finishing on top of the ladder, comes in at six, with Richardson joined by Rashid Khan, Mark Steketee, Adam Zampa and Wes Agar in the bowling attack.

Much like Lynn’s omission, Tanveer Sangha missing out on the side has raised some eyebrows. The leg-spinner, playing in his first season, finished the regular season with the third-most wickets (21) en route to earning selection in Australia’s T20 squad to tour New Zealand.

Daniel Sams of the Thunder and Marcus Stoinis of the Stars round out the 13-player squad, leaving the Melbourne side with the most representatives in the team of the tournament with three – even though they missed the finals.

The top two of the Sixers and Scorchers both had a pair of players selected, as did fellow finalists the Thunder, Strikers and Heat. McDermott was Hobart’s lone representative, while wooden-spooners the Renegades unsurprisingly didn’t have anyone make the team.
