The UFC Lightweight Championship is on the line in one of history’s most anticipated fights. Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov looks for his first title defence against bitter rival Conor McGregor. Join The Roar from 1pm AEDT for live round-by-round action.

Arguably the greatest wrestler the UFC has ever seen, lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov finally got his hands on the gold in his last fight.

After a late opponent change he took on Al Iaquinta for the belt and dominated him.

However the event is remembered for what happened before, when Conor McGregor turned up with dozens of men and threw a dolly through a bus window, injuring other fighters.

Nurmagomedov was unphased during the attack, just saying the words “send location”.

He now has his location and the chance to extend his remarkable unbeaten record to 27 wins and no losses.

McGregor returns to the cage after a two-year absence, however he did go ten rounds with Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match that many didn’t think would ever happen.

The last time we saw McGregor was when he became the first ever man to hold two belts, knocking out Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight title.

Shortly after he was stripped of both belts and has undertaken criticism for never defending a title in any organisation.

He knows a win over Nurmagomedov would silence all his doubters once and for all, but a loss would make them louder than ever.

The co-main event could provide the next contender for the lightweight title.

Former interim-champion Tony Ferguson was supposed to face Nurmagomedov for the title before he got injured, but he is going to face former champion Anthony Pettis instead.

Ferguson is riding a ten-fight winning streak, but is returned after being out for more than a year.

While Pettis, who has struggled in recent years, finally got back in the winners column with a second-round submission win over Michael Chiesa.

Prediction
If Khabib can get his hands on McGregor there will be nothing the former-champ can do, but if the fight stays standing McGregor will probably get the knockout. Both scenarios are likely, but the former is more likely.
