Opponent's nasty eye injury sees Australia's Andrew Moloney claim the WBA interim World title

Australian fighter Andrew Moloney has bounced back from a shaky moment to secure the WBA interim super flyweight title.

The 28-year-old overcame an upper cut from Elton Dharry in the fifth round that momentarily stunned him, bringing his right knee to the canvas.

However, Moloney was not only able to regroup but also take the upper hand from that point onwards.

A nasty injury to Dharry’s eye saw it gradually begin to close over.

Though Dharry was given every chance to show he could still fight, eventually the doctor was forced to bring the contest to an end just as the ninth round was set to begin, with Moloney claiming a TKO victory.

Moloney will now have the chance to take on the man with the super flyweight belt, Kal Yafai.
