'This is not ok': UFC fighter's stomach-turning weigh-in

The issues with weight-cutting were obvious to see during Cynthia Calvillo’s weigh-in for UFC Argentina, with the 31-year-old fighter very clearly finding it difficult just to stand on her own two feet unaided.

Despite the lengths Calvillo went to in order to get her weight down to 116 pounds (57 kilos) for her bout with Poliana Botelho, the American was still two pounds over, and as a result, will be docked one fifth of her fee.

The incident appears to have once again sparked the debate surrounding weight-cutting.

Fighters such as Cristiane Justino and Jessica Aguilar hit out at the scenes, with the former stressing her belief that despite their sport obviously being combat-based, the “most dangerous thing” in “WMMA is extreme weight cutting”.

Calvillo was the only fighter to fail to make weight for the event.

Brazilian MMA athletic commission doctors later cleared her to fight.
