Vicious 'superman punch' wrecks Stephen Thompson at UFC Nashville

Stephen Thompson has suffered a big upset loss at UFC Nashville after getting knocked out by Anthony Pettis in just the second round of the pair’s main event bout.

Though Thompson, the fourth-ranked welterweight in the world, entered the fight as the favourite, it was the former division champion Pettis who would emerge victorious, living up to his nickname ‘Wonderboy’.

With his back to the wall, Pettis jumped off and unleashed a ‘superman punch’ which floored Thompson and promptly ended the fight.

The victory sees Pettis return to the winner’s sheet, having last fought in a loss to Tony Ferguson late last year.

It is the 22nd win of Pettis’ career and just the fourth defeat Thompson has conceded.
