The Big Bash finals get underway tonight when the Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes take part in the Eliminator at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.15pm AEDT.

First up in the BBL final series is the elimination final between the 4th and 5th ranked sides. Based on current form, and the return of some Australian players, it’s not beyond either of these teams to get on a run. For one though, their season ends tonight.

The Adelaide Strikers looked out of the running a week or so ago, but four straight wins have turned their season around. Wins over the Scorchers and Sixers would have the self belief levels high.

In their win against the Sixers, Matt Renshaw and Ian Cockbain got amongst the runs. The addition of Alex Carey and Travis Head definitely strengthens the line up. It also gives the Strikers a greater ability to post big totals, especially in the last 10 overs.

Adelaide have dealt with the loss of Zaheer Khan well so far, with Fawad Ahmed taking on the leg spinner role. Peter Siddle has also enhanced his reputation as a top T20 bowler. Nevertheless, the Strikers do look a bit skinny in the bowling department.

The Hurricanes come into this with some reasonable form. Ben McDermott sits on top of the Golden Bat table at present and can simply take the game away from the opposition.

However, with a couple of McDermott failures recently, Matt Wade and D’arcy Short have found some form and will be crucial given their experience. Tim David can also hit a long ball.

On the bowling front, Hobart are led by Tom Rogers and Sandeep Lamichhane. They are bolstered by the return of Scott Boland after a fantastic test debut.

Prediction
The stakes are high tonight and both teams will be at the top of their game.

However, I feel that Hobart’s big 3 of McDermott, Wade and Short will get on top of an Adelaide bowling attack missing Khan.

Matching that total may prove a bit too much for Adelaide’s batting line up.

Hobart by 20 runs or 4 wickets
