BBL action resumes today as the Adelaide Strikers lock horns with the Sydney Sixers at the Adelaide Oval following their thrilling encounter in Coffs Harbour some days back. Be sure to tune in to The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match at 3:40pm (AEDT).

In their first clash, the Sixers’ vaunted wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe struck a splendid 56-ball 83* to see his team home and seal the fifth triumph for the Sixers in this year’s edition of the BBL.

The Strikers put up a hefty total of 176 runs courtesy of a short-ball barrage they gleefully cashed in on. But they would have rued the second half of the innings when they lost a bit of steam and couldn’t bat the Sixers out of the game. Jonathan Wells and Michael Neser got together to resurrect the innings through some well-timed strokes and contributed with handy cameos.

In reply, Justin Avendano and Josh Philippe got the Sixers off to a flying start. Avendano showcased his prowess against pace bowling as he took the Strikers’ attack apart. Featuring in just his fourth T20, the opener proved to be a good enough replacement for skipper Moises Henriques, who missed out due to the birth of his child.

When Avendano departed, Philippe took the lead and particularly counter-punched Rashid Khan through his hard sweeps and pulls. When the Sixers began stuttering at the end of their chase, Philippe once again came to the rescue, drilling 21 runs off Neser’s penultimate over to virtually seal the deal for the Sixers.

The Strikers have had a mixed campaign so far. They have secured three victories from six games and sit third in the points table. Wells and captain Alex Carey have been their star performers but need better support from their misfiring middle order.

The Sixers, on the other hand, are currently on a winning spree, winning all of their previous four games and elevating themselves to the number two spot on the ladder. Philippe has been remarkably good at the top of the order and Tom Curran’s all-round expertise has played a major role in extending their unbeaten streak. It will be interesting to see whether Avendano retains his place if Henriques returns.

Prediction
Teams prefer chasing at the Adelaide Oval due to its batting-friendly nature. Weather is set to remain clear throughout the game and we should be in for another crackerjack of a game.

The contest in Coffs Harbour was a sell out and we should expect a more boisterous Adelaide crowd at the Oval.

Thanks for tuning in, Roarers! That's all from this game- but be sure to stick around for our live blog of the upcoming Stars-Thunder match at the MCG, up next! Big news from that game: Chris Green has been banned from bowling for an illegal action after doing some testing on a suspect action during the week. Huge loss for the Thunder. Bye for now!

The Sixers win by 2 wickets (with 8 balls remaining) in a pulsating, epic affair at the Adelaide Oval! Rashid Khan's incredible hat-trick ripped out the Sixers' middle order and looked to have swung the match the Strikers' way after they were bowled out for just 135. But some nerveless batting from Tom Curran and Jackson Bird, but most importantly, three boundaries in three balls from Josh Hazlewood of all people, saw them home in the end.

18.4, Siddle to Hazlewood, FOUR RUNS, Hazlewood, you hero! The last one was lucky, but this is the shot of a batsman. Full outside off from Siddle, he missed the yorker, but Hazlewood crunches a powerful drive into the deep, and a diving Rashid Khan can't get there! The Sixers win! (SIXERS 8/137)

17.6, Conway to Curran, OUT, bowled him! The match swings again! Similar ball to the one Conway got from Curran in his innings- a perfect yorker on middle and off. Curran can't get any bat on it, the timber goes flying, and Conway is P-U-M-P-E-D! Tom Curran- b Conway- 21 (20) Run-a-ball needed. Josh Hazlewood in. (SIXERS 8/124) Req: 12 off 12

17.4, Conway to Bird, one no ball, oh dear! A second bouncer for the over, and that means a no-ball! Goes well over Bird's head, so was probably a wide anyway, but the no ball (and free hit) supersedes that! At least it's to Bird... (SIXERS 7/118) Req: 18 off 15

Still very much anyone's game here. Harry Conway to finish off- then Neser and Siddle, you presume.
