Match preview:

The Adelaide Strikers will be looking to continue their winning ways when they take on the Sydney Sixers at the Adelaide Oval tonight. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:15pm (AEDT).

Both these sides sit just inside the top four, on three wins apiece, and will be desperate to try and put some breathing space between them and their mid-table compatriots.

Adelaide’s three wins have all come of the back of strong bowling performances. Rashid Khan, arguably the highest profile bowling import in the competition, has sustained his red-hot bowling form, while Billy Stanlake continues to impress in the wickets column.

This attack will be strengthened by the inclusion of Peter Siddle, who has returned from national duty in Sydney.

Siddle’s improbable re-invention as a T20 bowler played a crucial part in Adelaide’s run to the title last year and a Man of the Match performance against the Thunder underlined his value to the bowling attack.

He (4.67) and teammate Rashid (4.65) have the lowest economy rates in the competition, almost an entire run less than the next best, the Heat’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman (5.56)

Their batting, headlined by Alex Carey, has been consistent without being spectacular. Carey scored 83 off 49 balls the last time these two sides met last year and will be the key man tonight. He will be ably supported by Jake Weatherald, who is continuing his good run of form from last year’s BBL.

The Sixers bowling attack is even more potent than the home team’s on paper, with three out of the tournament’s leading ten wicket-takers in their line-up.

The ever-reliable Steven O’Keefe and Sean Abbott have been well complemented this season by new import Tom Curran, who has been one of the finds of the season with the ball.

The BBL’s leading wicket-taker, O’Keefe, loves playing at the Adelaide Oval, where he has his best BBL record of any Australian ground and Abbott will have fond memories of his devastating spell of 5/16 when the two sides last met here on New Year’s Eve in BBL06.

The harbourside team’s batting has been somewhat inconsistent so far, relying mostly on surprise-packet Jordan Silk and Daniel Hughes, with occasional contributions from Moises Henriques.

Prediction
Adelaide have won the past three meetings between these two sides and should continue that record tonight in a low-scoring encounter.

Would not surprise me if Philippe went to NSW next year for shield. WA Scorcher's have him as 3rd pick keeper and Neville possibly retiring he could be a good pick up.

Match Report The Sydney Sixers have coasted to a six wicket victory over the Adelaide Strikers at the Adelaide Oval. The Strikers were on the back foot from the very start after Alex Carey was run out after being caught on the back foot at the non-striker’s end in the first over. Despite a partial rebuild including a well-compiled fifty from Jake Weatherald and some late hitting from Jono Wells, the Strikers were restricted to 150, thanks to a solid all-round bowling performance from the Sydney Sixers. In response, the Sixers scored at a consistent rate and were never really troubled, save for an occasional wobble or two (Cam Valente will rue dropping Joe Denly). As mentioned, Denly was the standout with the bat, notching a career high BBL score in his final game for the club before joining up with the English side in the West Indies. Rashid Khan’s double-strike in the 13th over gave Adelaide some late hope, but some lusty hitting and excellent rotation of the strike by Josh Philippe saw the Sixers home with 10 balls to spare.

After a slow start to the season, Joe Denly finally came good tonight and is deservedly named Man of the Match. His 76 off 60 balls guided the Sixers to a comfortable win. After a fast start, it looked like he might be getting bogged down, and he was dropped by Cam Valente on 33, but he made Adelaide pay dearly for this mistake.
