Fresh off a dominant qualifying period, Scotland are looking to take their form into the T20 World Cup group stage when they take on Afghanistan. Join The Roar for live scores from 1am (AEDT).

An upset win over Bangladesh, plus two other comfortable wins over fellow Associates, saw Scotland into the main event with an undefeated run, for their first major ICC tournament since the 2015 ODI World Cup. That ended in a winless run, including a thrilling one-wicket loss to Afghanistan themselves; but in a group including another Associate nation in Namibia as well as an Afghanistan outfit still finding its way as a Full Member nation, there’s every chance the Scots could win one or even two games at the highest level.

Watch out for all-rounder Chris Greaves to make an impact; he was the hero against the Tigers with a 28-ball 45 followed up by a crucial spell of 2/19 in their thrilling triumph. He’s been quieter in their last two performances, but is made for the big stage.

Afghanistan are ranked eighth in the world in the ICC T20 rankings, with their wily spinners and big-hitting batsmen perfectly suited to the shortest format. The star will once again be Rashid Khan; the leg-spinner has cut a swathe through every domestic tournament he’s played in, and the low and slow pitches expected in the UAE and Oman this tournament appear to play right into his hands.

The loser will struggle to fire too many more shots this tournament, given they share the group with powerhouses India, Pakistan and New Zealand; but for the victor, possibilities of a Cinderella run through to the semi-finals will become a real, if unlikely, possibility.
