The Super 12 portion of the 2021 T20 World Cup continues tonight, when Australia takes on Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 9.00pm (AEDT).

Not many of us were surprised that England beat Australia last Sunday morning. However, the manner of the defeat was very surprising. The Australians were comprehensively beaten in all facets of the game. It is crucial now that they bounce back quickly.

With two matches remaining, Australia have fallen behind South Africa on net run rate. To progress, they need to win their final two matches and hope the Proteas slip up against England. Bangladesh are sitting bottom of the table and cannot progress.

With the exception of Aaron Finch, the Australia batting lineup failed against England. Coach Justin Langer will be under pressure to make at least a couple of changes.

I’d expect Mitch Marsh to regain his place in the side and possibly Josh Inglis will get his chance.

If Marsh returns, it’s likely that one of the bowlers will miss out. On current form alone, Mitchell Starc may find himself on the sidelines.

Bangladesh’s World Cup has been disappointing. After losing to Scotland, they have failed to register a win in the Super 12.

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, the world’s no 1 ranked T20 all-rounder has failed to fire in the Super 12 stage, taking only a few wickets and not getting a start at the top of the order.

Lesser-known talents like the captain Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim are playing well but they are struggling without their major strike power in the best of form. He may yet produce it against Australia.

Prediction

It was only a few months ago that Bangladesh routed Australia in a T20 series.

However, it was played on some questionable decks in Bangladesh and the Australian team took on a completely different look to the team playing in the UAE.

The Aussies simply have too much to play for and they should win this one.

Australia by 30 runs or 4 wickets.
