Australia needs six more wickets against England to take a 2-0 series lead in the Ashes when the fifth day of the second Ashes Test commences at the Adelaide Oval. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 3pm AEDT.

For the tourists, it’s simply a case of trying to survive for three sessions to save the Test which appears unlikely after captain Joe Root fell in the final over last night.

While it’s been harder to get wickets than anticipated in this Test, Australia has caused enough trouble for the England batters to make this almost impossible to pull off a miracle.

Even if the Aussies can’t get the early breakthroughs today, they know they have the night session as a backup should it get that far with a new ball under lights.

Australia is paying $1.02 to win the Test and with a fine forecast, it’s hard to see any other result than a 2-0 lead for the home side going into Melbourne.

England will be hoping to at least keep the Aussies out in the field for a couple of sessions to get some much-needed batting practice for the likes of Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler.
