2-0 up in the series following wins in Brisbane and Adelaide, Australia can secure the Ashes with another victory over England in a blockbuster Boxing Day Test. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage of the action from 10:30am (AEDT).

After a crushing 275-run win at the Adelaide Oval, Australia looks set to go from strength to strength in Melbourne, with captain and star fast bowler Pat Cummins almost certain to return after missing the second Test as a COVID close contact.

Shock debutant Scott Boland is the wildcard, with his brilliant first-class record at the MCG enabling the Aussies to tread cautiously around minor injury concerns to Jhye Richardson, Josh Hazlewood and Michael Neser.

Out of form opener Marcus Harris has been retained despite poor returns thus far in the series, with the adopted Victorian likely to need a big innings at the MCG to retain his spot for the rest of the series.

England have rung the changes following their eleventh loss from their last 12 Tests in Australia. Opener Rory Burns, quicks Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad and number six batter Ollie Pope have all been axed, with Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Jack Leach and Mark Wood the inclusions.

Wood’s return comes after being controversially axed in Adelaide, while Leach has returned despite copping a hammering in the first Test in Brisbane.

Having dominated this series from the very first ball, the Aussies are naturally heavy favourites heading into this game. With a win or a draw all they need to retain the little urn, England will need to pull off something remarkable to keep the series alive for the Sydney New Year’s Test.
