Australia have put themselves in a wonderful position to dominate the Fourth Ashes Test at the SCG, Sydney and strong>England will have to have their best first innings of the series to try and fight their way back into this match. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage of the first day’s play from 10:00am (AEDT).
Day two was all about Australia and Usman Khawaja. They worked hard all day to grind out run after run and with Khawaja’s memorable ton and Australia crossing the 400 mark England’s chances of winning this Test slipped further and further away from their reach.
But England have to focus on the positives – their two openers survived a challenging few overs at the death of day two and they have all ten wickets in hand as they look to chase down the 403 runs that will get them equal with Australia’s first innings total.
There are some talented players in the England side who haven’t fired yet with the bat and the likes of Zak Crawley, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler will want to prove that they have what it takes to succeed in this cauldron.
The SCG wicket started to show a few signs that it might be beginning to misbehave which Pat Cummins and his bowlers will look to exploit quickly. If they can get three quick wickets in the first session then fears of another innings loss will be ringing in England’s ears.
There is rain forecast in the morning but let’s hope that we get another decent day’s worth of play like we did yesterday.
