Australia’s destiny is back in their own hands at the T20 World Cup… but a loss to old foes England in the tournament’s most crucial match yet could prove their final chance to turn things around. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).

Despite not being at their complete best, Australia ultimately ended up thrashing Sri Lanka in Perth. They bowled well, bar the last over where Patrick Cummins went for a few runs too many.

Cummins’ final over could end up being costly for him, as Adam Zampa is likely to return from COVID and Ashton Agar bowled extremely well at Perth as his replacement.

Skipper Aaron Finch is under massive pressure to perform, having limped his way to a struggling 42-ball 31 in Perth. Does he keep himself opening, or does he switch positions with Glenn Maxwell to give Australia the best possible chance of an ultra-fast start?

England will be slightly low on confidence after losing to neighbours Ireland and remaining winless against European nations in T20 cricket. They’ve bowled out their opposition in both games they’ve played, but their batting has struggled.

Captain Jos Buttler is short of runs, and needs to fire or else the Poms will be in huge trouble.

Prediction

With Ireland beating England, the group has become wide open. If rain stays away in Melbourne, we could be in for a cracking game.

England have never won a T20I at the MCG, and Australia will want to keep that record intact. Purely based on England’s record at the MCG, I am backing the Aussies to get the job done.
