After a fortnight of T20 cricket that has put women’s cricket on the centre stage, it comes down to this.

Australia and England will face off in the final of the Women’s World T20, coming to you this Sunday morning at 11am AEDT, from the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

Australia and England both enjoyed convincing wins on Friday, against opposition that both won their respective pools.

In pitch conditions that restricted expansive strokeplay, Australia built slowly in their semi against the West Indies before hitting out towards the end, posting a very respectable 5-142.

Alyssa Healy was again the star, with 46 runs from 38 deliveries. She was ably supported by Meg Lanning and a cameo from Rachael Haynes in the final overs.

To the disappointment of the home fans, the West Indies were never really in it. When Sophie Molineux snared the wicket of Stefanie Taylor, the Windies slumped to 5-44 and the game was done. They were eventually bowled out for 71.

India started their semi-final well against England, reaching 2-89 in the 13th over. The run out of Jemimah Rodrigues, one of three in all, caused some panic within the Indian batting line up. What followed was an epic collapse, with India bowled out for 112 in the 19th over. Six overs of mayhem.

Set the modest target, England never looked troubled, reaching the total only 2 wickets down. Amy Jones and Natalie Sciver both scored impressive unbeaten 50s, sending a warning sign out to the Aussie camp.

Prediction
This is really a toss of the coin job and much will depend on which team shows greater patience on a wicket that will likely favour the bowlers.

England are the reigning ODI world champions so they should go in with plenty of confidence.

However, Australia, on paper, are the best women’s cricket team in the world and I expect them to win.
