The Australian Test summer finally gets underway with the long-awaited clash between two heavyweights of the game, Australia and India, starting this afternoon at the Adelaide Oval. Join The Roar for live scores from 3pm and live commentary from 5.20pm (AEDT).

Australian head coach Justin Langer has described the team’s preparation for the Tests against India as “disjointed”, which is an understated way of putting things, considering the lengthy injury list they are dealing with.

David Warner is out of this first Test as he continues to recover from a groin injury sustained in the second ODI against India, and Will Pucovski has been ruled out after his concussion in the Australia A game just under a fortnight ago.

It leaves Joe Burns looking set to remain as opener despite his current poor run of form, with Marcus Harris and Matthew Wade in contention to join the Queenslander out in the middle at the top of the order as of the time of writing.

However, Langer did reveal on Tuesday that Cameron Green would make his Test debut in Adelaide, and skipper Tim Paine revealed the youngster is fit to play after suffering a nasty head knock last week.

As for India, they capitalised on some weak performances from the Australia A side in the warm-up games, and come into this Test on the front foot.

The visitors will be looking to make as many inroads as possible in the first Test, with captain Virat Kohli returning to India after the match for the birth of his first child.

Australia may not be as confident as they were just a few weeks ago about this one, and things are all set up for this series to live up to the blockbuster promotion it has received.
