Australia still hold the edge after the second T20 was washed out, but will India level the series with a win at the SCG? Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 6:50pm AEDT.

The forecast for Friday night in Melbourne was less than favourable for a game of cricket; a dreary day turned into a dreary evening and the chance of 40 overs being bowled was unlikely.

India won the toss, electing to bowl first and took an early wicket – captain Aaron Finch – off the second ball.

From there India took control of the innings, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed took two wickets each, while Krunal Pandya bowled Glenn Maxwell and took the catches of Chris Lynn and Alex Carey.

Ben McDermott top scored for Australia with 32 runs off 30 balls, while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Andrew Tye’s cameos helped edge Australia to 7/132 off 19 overs, before the covers came out.

The rain appeared to clear a couple of times, first the target was 137 off 19 overs for India and then reassessed for an 11-over second innings, but still play could not get underway and the game was called off at 9:30pm.

Luckily for cricket fans, the forecast looks much better for Sydney tonight and we should get a full T20 match for the first time this series.

Billy Stanlake injured his ankle in the warm up on Friday night and was ruled out of the series following scans on Saturday.

Mitchell Starc has been called up to take Stanlake’s place in the squad, this is Starc’s first appearance in the twenty over format since 2016.

Prediction
A sign in the crowd on Friday evening read something along the lines of ‘the only thing that will save Australia is the rain’ and unfortunately wet weather is not predicted for this evening in Sydney.
