Ireland will open their T20 World Cup with a clash against the in-form tournament favourites Australia, at Providence Stadium on Monday morning. Join The Roar for live coverage of the match, starting from 7am (AEDT).

Australia’s World Cup began seamlessly against Pakistan on Saturday morning with a convincing 52-run victory.

Their win was set up by the batting efforts of Alyssa Healy (48 runs), Beth Mooney (48 runs) and Meg Lanning (41 runs) and backed up in the field by some good bowling from Megan Schutt (2/13) and Georgia Wareham (2/18).

The class of the Australian outfit over their Pakistan counterparts was evident from the get-go, but they admitted post-match that runs were left out there and ideally should have bowled Pakistan out within the 20 overs.

The Southern Stars will look to continue this dominance over the weaker, less experienced Ireland side.

Ireland qualified for this World Cup in July 2018; an exciting achievement for a side that suffers a severe lack of international opportunities.

In fact, the Irish Women have only played six matches between their last World T20 game in India in March 2016 and the qualifying tournament this year.

During the warm-ups for this tournament they lost by six wickets to Bangladesh – who also qualified in July – and then beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets, which would have been a confidence booster heading into the pool games.

It’s Ireland’s first game of the World Cup and a very tough first assignment at that.

Players to watch
Alyssa Healy (Australia)
Healy opened her World Cup campaign on Saturday morning with 48 runs and continued with two stumpings and a catch in the Pakistan innings. Named player of the match, Alyssa Healy is in fine form with the bat and will look to add to her run tally against Ireland.

Kim Garth (Ireland)
The rising star, who won the Women’s Big Bash League with the Alyssa Healy and the Sydney Sixers last summer, was just 14 when she made her debut in the national side. Now, at 22 years of age, she is a right-handed all-rounder and will be hoping to help Ireland to some success this tournament.

Prediction
Australia know these pool matches are must wins and they should get it done comfortably over Ireland.

And after that clinical performance the Aussies are back out on the field, using the ground to run through drills and make sure they are prepared for the next two, hopefully three and four games, that'll all be tougher than these first two. They're sending a warning to the other teams that they mean business. Finishing in record time, with a convincing win wasn't enough today - more to work on and they do so immediately. Match fitness and also some practice in concentration, as T20 games don't normally finish in two hours.

Australia keep on rolling in their World Cup campaign - that's the two "easier" games from their pool done though and it will be tougher from here. Up next for Australia is a clash with New Zealand, Wednesday morning 11:00am AEDT. Then a couple days off before a match against India, Sunday Nov 18 1:30am AEDT (overnight). Plenty of other cricket to look forward to as well. Tomorrow England is up against Bangladesh, while Sri Lanka will take on South Africa.

Comprehensive victory from a dominant Australian side in all facets of the game today. No surprise, Alyssa Healy is named player of the match for her 56* off 31 balls (her 50 came off just 21 balls).

Over 7 Richardson back into the attack. Perry facing, 1 run eased to mid off. Healy eases the next to long-off for a single too. Some dot balls now, as Perry can't connect well enough with anything. Final ball of the over: SIX for Perry, full toss, Perry skips forward and swings over deep midwicket! Australia 1/86

Over 6 Perry comes in at number 3, looking for some time in the middle. Single for Perry to get off the mark. Healy facing Garth now, takes her downtown over long-on to bring up her 50!! Wow, 50 off 21 balls. Punishing the poor bowling from Ireland and showing some great form as well. Australia 1/78

WICKET! Garth into the attack now, teammate of the Sydney Sixers Australian girls. Her experience shows, she beats Mooney for pace first up. Mooney steers the next one past the diving short third man fielder for FOUR. 2 more runs at deep square And then OUT! Mooney mistimes it and whips off the toe-end to Delany. Mooney 14 (c Delany, b Garth) Over 5.3 Australia 0/71

Over 5 Isobel Joyce with the ball now... Ireland trying to find someone who can bowl a few good balls, but Healy continues to make them pay. Wow 16 off the over, Healy putting Joyce's full tosses away for boundaries. The Aussies could finish this in the next two overs.... Australia 0/65

Over 4 Delany the captain puts herself in now and Healy takes her for two FOURs off the first two balls, first is drilled to the extra cover boundary and the second with one bounce over extra cover. Healy thumps the next to sweeper, only one run there though. 2 leg byes next for Mooney, she can't get any bat but off the pad the ball runs away and they take two. Lucky for Delany, Mooney mistimes the next and then Mooney finishes with FOUR more runs, too full and taken to the deep square leg boundary. Expensive over for Delany. Australia 0/49

Over 3 Metcalfe takes the ball now, single off the first - Mooney cuts away deep to cover for a run. Healy now, change of field and Healy picks the gap that's now available FOUR runs past midwicket. No run off the next ball, didn't have much pace and Healy can't connect. Metcalfe continues to Healy, they run two off this one, one for the hit to mid-off and one from the misfield after a direct hit. On the full, Healy takes Metcalfe to the boundary for FOUR runs - didn't connect as well as she'd have liked, but found the boundary. Single off the last ball of the over. Australia 0/34

Drives the next firmly to cover, no run. Wide, slips down leg. Mooney drives back past the bowler, 1 run taken. Healy drives hard to the sweeper at cover, they take a single. Another wide - that's 4 this over! Dot. Make that 5! long over... Final ball, good one at that - driven to mid on, no run. Australia 0/22

Over 1 So five runs given to Australia's run chase before the first ball was bowled, for running on the pitch by an Irish batter in Ireland's innings. Richardson to Healy, slaps the first to cover. Second worked to deep midwicket for a run. Mooney punches her first delivery to mid off, no run. Single for Mooney, eased down to long-on. 5nb off the fifth delivery, full toss above the waist, Healy pulls this beautifully to the square leg boundary for FOUR runs, no ball called as well. Healy looks to launch off the no ball, but can't connect. She doesn't connect as nicely with the next pull shot, but they run two. Australia 0/14
