The third Test between Australia and New Zealand resumes today in Sydney with the match nicely poised after the opening two days. Join The Roar for live scores from 10:30am (AEDT).

Australia was eventually bowled out for 454 on day two after a superb innings of 215 from Marnus Labuschagne who has now scored four centuries and seven fifties in just his 14th Test.

Considering Labuschagne’s mammoth innings the Black Cap bowlers did extremely well to keep Australia under 500.

Neil Wagner was again one of the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 66. He was supported by Colin de Grandhomme (3 for 78) with spinner Todd Astle picking up two wickets including Labuschagne from a caught and bowled.

New Zealand will be quietly optimistic about reducing the deficit today after openers Tom Latham and Tom Blundell safely made it to stumps without losing a wicket with the score on 63.

Stand in captain Latham has a chance to do something special and he’ll be buoyed by the fact he and Blundell denied Australia for 29 overs to finish day two.

Still, there is a long way to go and the spin of Nathan Lyon could be the contributing factor on day three with Lyon proving difficult to score from with three maidens so far in his eight overs.

Australia will be confident that one wicket is likely to bring two or three with struggling batsman Jeet Raval listed to come in at first drop and the absence of New Zealand’s best batsman and usual captain Kane Williamson.

As always the first hour will be crucial in determining if New Zealand has a shot of making a game of this. With the ball already 29 overs old, the Black Caps have a big chance to build a decent innings and salvage more than just pride from the series.

Join The Roar to see which way it pans out, with live scores of the day’s play from 10:30am (AEDT).
