The final series at home to round out a long summer of cricket will see a women’s ODI series between Meg Lanning’s dominant Australian side and New Zealand. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of Game 1 at the WACA from 1:20pm (AEDT).
Australia have had an excellent last six months in international cricket, and funnily enough, it all started against New Zealand when they comprehensively won a T20 series to start the summer.
They then went to Malaysia and beat Pakistan, before taking home the trophy from the World T20, before the WBBL and WNCL have kept the players entertained in a long summer.
This is their last commitments until the Ashes, and with spots on the line, the hosts will all be keen on big performances.
New Zealand, on the other hand, came up short in the semi-finals of the World T20 and lost to the Aussies during that tournament.
While they have talent in their side, consistency is lacking, and in the ODI format where there is less unpredictability from match to match, that could be on display even more so.
Still, it should give their solid batting line-up more time to work into an innings, which will mean the Aussie bowling attack, led by Megan Schutt and in-form all-rounder Ellyse Perry, need to be on the money from the word go.
Sarah Devine, Suzie Bates and Amy Satterthwaite are all exceptional players, and if the trio are able to bat well, then it’ll hand a chance for the bowling attack, led by Lea Tahuhu, to make in roads.
In saying that, they need early wickets to expose the Aussie batting. It’s a strong line-up, and when you consider Perry and Rachael Haynes are in the middle order after players like Alyssa Heally and Meg Lanning, New Zealand need wickets and need them regularly.
Still, that’s a facet they have struggled with, even when restricting runs, so it’s not hard to see why most pundits believe they will be out-classed in this series, particularly on a bowler-friendly WACA where Schutt, Perry and potentially the returning Lauren Cheatle should come into their own.
Prediction
Australia have had a great period, and should continue that here as they build for the Ashes. Expect them to pick up a solid win at the WACA to kick off this series.
Australia to go 1-0 up.

END OF MATCH And she won't get it. Just works away for a single does Jensen, so that'll do the game. After the full 100 overs in Perth, Australia somehow escape by five runs. Over: 50 New Zealand: 9/236 Required score: 242

Rosemary Mair the final one in for New Zealand. Needs a six for a tie.

WICKET! Lea Tahuhu, Caught Ellyse Perry, Bowled Megan Schutt 4 (2) That'll do it. Tahuhu tried to hit over mid wicket, skied it, and Perry takes the catch. 7 from 1. Over: 49.5 New Zealand: 9/235 Required score: 242

FOUR Yorker, and that's all sorts of luck for Tahuhu. She gets an inside edge and that races away to fine leg for four. Over: 49.4 New Zealand: 8/235 Required score: 242

Jensen can only chip the next to mid off, playing a yorker. 11 off 3 and Tahuhu now on strike. Over: 49.3 New Zealand: 8/231 Required score: 242

Better from Schutt, pace off, into the body and a misfield allows them to get back for two. Over: 49.2 New Zealand: 8/230 Required score: 242

FOUR Schutt to bowl the final over and maybe there is some hope for New Zealand yet. Jensen comes down the track and hits over cover point for a boundary. Over: 49.1 New Zealand: 8/228 Required score: 242

Great ball from Jonassen. Yorker length, Tahuhu can't get anything off it and New Zealand need 18 off the final over. Jonassen finishes with 4/43. Over: 49 New Zealand: 8/224 Required score: 242

WICKET! Amy Satterthwaite, Caught Rachael Haynes, Bowled Jess Jonassen 92 (123) Satterthwaite had no choice, and New Zealand dug themselves a hole they aren't going to be able to climb out of now. She backed away and tried to go inside out to a full one, but picked out Haynes at cover who takes the easy catch. Over: 48.4 New Zealand: 8/223 Required score: 242

Jensen down the track and she grabs a single to long on. Over: 48.3 New Zealand: 7/223 Required score: 242

Jonassen with a good length ball outside the off stump. She slogs it through wide mid on and it's kept to two on the fence. Great work from Wareham. Over: 48.2 New Zealand: 7/222 Required score: 242

Jonassen with a great start. Plenty of flight, just outside the off stump, straightens and Jensen misses the slog sweep. Healy is pretty confident on the stumping. Upstairs, but she was okay. Over: 48.1 New Zealand: 7/220 Required score: 242

Huge risk. They are going to stick with Jonassen, so no Perry.
