Australia might already have their women’s T20 series against New Zealand wrapped up, but they will be gunning to make it three from three when the sides head to Canberra. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:20pm (AEST).
The Southern Stars, as they were formerly known, have been dominant throughout this series so far, not being all that stressed in chasing down two reasonable targets at North Sydney Oval and the Allan Border Field across the first two games.
While they have won the toss and bowled first on both occasions, they have managed to keep New Zealand to chaseable targets and then won the games with relative ease and without a great deal of pressure being applied.
In the first game, Australia restricted New Zealand to 162 with Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner the pick of the bowlers.
The difference in depth across the batting orders has been a feature of the first two games, with Australia chasing that total down with 14 balls to spare after Rachael Haynes and Meg Lanning went nuts.
The second game was almost no different, although the tourists would have been overly frustrated with where they ended up.
After starting strongly with the bat on the back of Suzie Bates (77 off 52 balls), they ended up with just 145 on the board after sitting at eight runs per over with eight wickets in the shed at the halfway mark of the innings.
It was an extremely poor performance with the bat, and while Beth Mooney was dismissed early, the depth in Australia’s batting line-up again was put on display as Alyssa Healy and Elyse Villani combined to both score half-centuries and carry the hosts to the series victory.
Prediction
The Australians will go in as favourites again and while there were better signs from the tourists in Brisbane, they will head home without a victory to their name as the Aussies wrap up a three-nothing white-wash.
Australia to win again.
