It’s a rematch of the 2016 final, Australia and the West Indies will fight it out for the first spot in this year’s decider during the first semi-final. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 7am (AEDT).

As they were in 2016, Australia come into the match as raging favourites. However, on that occasion, the West Indies were more than equal to the challenge, chasing down 148 with just two wickets lost to stop the Australians from taking their fourth consecutive world T20 crown.

On that occasion, it was Stafanie Taylor and Hayley Matthews who were the chief destroyers for the West Indies, and they have both been strong throughout a successful tournament this time around as captain and vice-captain respectively.

They finished top of their group, going through undefeated after destroying Bangladesh, South Africa and Sri Lanka, then squeezing past England in their final group game to ensure they finished top of the pile.

The host nation have had contributions from all over the board though and will be happy with where they are sitting.

What they wouldn’t have been expecting was a match with Australia had they finished top of their group.

It was a loss to India which brought the Aussies perfect run undone, but it showed they still have some flaws to work out in their bowling. While they go from strength to strength, they are still struggling to string 20 overs of consistent lines and lengths together, and it’s made some of the winning margins across their games – namely, New Zealand – lower than they should be.

What the loss also did was expose the batting. Alyssa Healy has been in excellent form, but she has received little in the way of support throughout the tournament at times. Her being out of the last match put the pressure on, and Australia didn’t rise to it, crumbling for 119 with only Ellyse Perry putting up resistance, finishing on 39.

Despite that, Australia have been finding ways to get out of matches with wins and it’d be a surprise if they didn’t manage to do so with someone standing up here.

Prediction
The Australians are favourites and will have revenge on the mind. The Windies are hard to beat at home, but the Aussies should be able to do it here, so long as they get rid of Stafanie Taylor early doors.

Australia to advance to the final in a close one.

AUSTRALIA DEFEAT WEST INDIES BY 71 RUNS Australia have booked their spot in the final of the 2018 Women's World T20 with a commanding 71-run over the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound. While it was unclear just what a score of 142 was going to mean, it was always thought to be around the par total, given the pitch was slow and two-paced, with plenty of grip and turn on offer for the spinners and slower bowlers. It was all Alyssa Healy early, who made her return from a concussion. She top-scored with 46 from just 38 balls, while Meg Lanning held things together, ensuring there would be no collapse with 31 at the other end. It was the finish from Rachael Haynes though which made all the difference as she racked up 25 runs in quick fashion, whacking a couple of boundaries to elevate the scoreline. In reply, the West Indies never got going. Wickets fell at regular intervals for the top order, and while Stafanie Taylor held things together for a little while with 16, it was never going to be enough as the hosts bowed out of the tournament, falling 71 runs short of the target. Australia: 5/142 (20) West Indies: 10/71 (17.3)

Healy takes the ball, whips off the bails and just like that, Australia are through to the final of the 2018 World T20 on the back of an absolutely outstanding performance.
