Brisbane Heat meet Hobart Hurricanes for the second time this BBL season in what will prove a crucial match in the make-up of the ladder, with both teams on six points going into the match. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:10pm (AEDT).
Brisbane’s last match came against Sydney Thunder on Monday night and was hindered heavily by on-and-off rain. Brisbane set the total of 4-119 from eight overs, with Tom Banton and Chris Lynn opening the batting and scoring 56 and 31 respectively.
With Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system, the target was revised to 77 from five overs. Brisbane were able to hold the Thunder to 4-60 to win by 16 runs.
Hobart also had a win last time out, when they travelled to face Perth Scorchers on Sunday. A D’Arcy Short century took the Hurricanes to 2-180 from their 20 overs. Perth came within eight runs to score 8-172 but ultimately ran out of overs.
With the Australian Test series coming to an end and the ODI tour of India coming up, squads across the BBL are set for major reshuffles.
Brisbane lose no players to the ODI squad but they do regain Joe Burns from the Test squad. Cameron Gannon makes way for Burns.
Hobart, meanwhile, have bigger changes. Top run-scorer D’Arcy Short will be away with the ODI squad and top wicket-taker Riley Meredith is ruled out for the next four to six weeks with a side strain. Hobart have conceded Meredith will likely miss the rest of the BBL season. Bowler David Moody comes in to replace Meredith, while captain Matthew Wade’s timely return from the Test team will see him come straight in for Short.
Prediction
Hobart missing Short and Meredith on top of the already injured James Faulkner makes them very vulnerable and Brisbane have looked very sound in every batting innings since their collapse against Perth on New Year’s Day.
Brisbane should win this one, but don’t rule Hobart out completely.
