The BBL continues tonight when the Brisbane Heat take on the Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba in Brisbane. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match starting from 7:15pm (AEDT).
It’s still very early days in this competition but the Brisbane Heat, with only one competition point, will be desperate to get the win.
They got within two runs of the Adelaide Strikers in their last start, with Jimmy Peirson’s 69 not out almost getting Brisbane home. However, given they sat at 8-68, the Heat’s batting order needs to stand up.
They will need to stand up without Chris Lynn, who is likely to be out for a few weeks at least with a hamstring injury.
On the bowling side, Xavier Bartlett has proved impressive in his debut season while Mark Steketee is getting among the wickets. Veteran Ben Laughlin has been well below his best this season and needs to improve.
On the other hand, the Hobart Hurricanes are cruising towards the top of the ladder.
Ben McDermott is in great form for Hobart, scoring an unbeaten 89 last game against the Renegades. Tim David is also causing plenty of problems for opposition bowlers.
Nathan Ellis has proven that he is a great death bowler while James Faulkner and Scott Boland are taking crucial wickets in the power play.
Prediction
Hobart have had the advantage of playing all of their games in Tasmania so far this season. However, that is about to change and there is a chance of an upset at the Gabba.
But the loss of Chris Lynn is massive for the Heat and their batting is simply too brittle at the moment.
The Hurricanes are playing to their potential and I expect them to chalk up a comfortable win.
Hurricanes by 30 runs or six wickets.
