The Brisbane Heat will be out to make it two in a row when they return home for a clash against the Melbourne Renegades. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:15pm (AEDT).

The Heat are in the midst of a stretch which sees them play five games in 12 days, after playing just four games throughout the first three weeks of the competition.

Brisbane won only one of those games, but looked somewhere near their best in a rain-impacted clash against the Sydney Thunder on the road two nights ago.

While we never really got to see their bowling due to the weather, it’s their batting which has been the problem so far this season.

It still has the potential to be so, to be fair, but with Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum and Max Bryant all firing from the top of the order for the Queensland side, it didn’t matter what the rest of a relatively weak batting order did.

They piled up 186 in their 20 overs before being 15 runs ahead on Duckworth Lewis when the rain eventually hit Homebush after threatening all night.

On the other side, the Renegades are three and three from their six games and it’s difficult to get a read on exactly how their season is going.

They won their last start, handing the Hobart Hurricanes their first loss of the season, but Aaron Finch again leaves what has become a pretty brittle batting line-up, so from that point, players like captain Tom Cooper and Cameron White simply must stand up.

The Renegades will have a big challenge bowling at a very different Gabba deck though, with Usman Khan Shinwari needing to lead the way and bowl full if he wants to stop the Heat’s aforementioned top three.

Prediction
The Heat are back at home and finally their top order looked itself in their last start. This roll of games should allow them to build some momentum, and I’ve been less than convinced by the Renegades, let alone their chances of winning at the Gabba.

Heat in a close one.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES DEFEAT BRISBANE HEAT BY 8 WICKETS WITH 26 BALLS TO SPARE The Melbourne Renegades have put on a comprehensive performance to beat the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba. The Heat were their own worst enemy throughout the course of the contest, and while their batting wasn't all bad, they struggled to find the boundary during the second half of their innings. For the second straight game, their middle order failed them as the Heat ended up losing wickets on the regular and struggling to keep the run rate up. Still, 144 should have been defendable on a tricky pitch to score runs on. While some early wickets, including that of Marcus Harris, helped the Heat in their cause, they made some silly decisions using their bowlers up in the wrong order and dropped plenty of catches as Marcus Harris and Tom Cooper got the job done with a big third-wicket partnership which was unbeaten when they eventually brought up the total early in the 16th over of the chase. Brisbane Heat: 8/144 (20) Melbourne Renegades: 2/145 (20)

Yeah, it's a real problem. I don't understand what happened to just bowling yorkers.

I’m really concerned the current generation of cricketers can’t bowl the ball up at off stump with any consistentency.

RENEGADES WIN With just two to win, Harper has gone big over mid off. Backed away, got enough on it to clear the fielder, they come back for two and that's the end of that. The Renegades have won by eight wickets with 26 balls to spare. Dominant performance from the men in red. Over: 15.4 Renegades: 2/145 Target: 145

SIX! Harper has 50 Short. Just down the leg side and Harper has got in behind that lovely, swivelling the hook shot into the crowd over fine leg. Over: 15.3 Renegades: 2/142 Target: 145

Bouncer from Doggett. Half an appeal for caught behind as Harper misses the hook shot and it's been called a wide. Not sure about the call, but it's all a formality at the moment. Over: 15.1 Renegades: 2/136 Target: 145

Yorker from Doggett here. Cooper goes for the drive, but gets an edge which flies down to third man for a single. Over: 15.1 Renegades: 2/135 Target: 145

And another two to end the over. Harper again down the wicket to one which was dug in and it's cut away on the up for another couple Harper up to 48. 11 from 5 overs needed and this could be a healthy net run rate boost for the 'Gades. Over: 15 Renegades: 2/134 Target: 145

FOUR Harper down the track now. He backs away to a slower, shorter one and hammers the cut shot into the gap for a boundary. Over: 14.3 Renegades: 2/126 Target: 145

Pace off the ball from Swepson here. Harper down the track, looking to sweep. Play and miss, then he somehow gets back to the crease with a dive before Peirson can get a hold of things and whip the bails off. Over: 14 Renegades: 2/121 Target: 145
