In a clash with only pride on the line, the Brisbane Heat will take on the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 8:40pm (AEDT).

At this point, it’d be fair to say the season has been nothing short of a disaster for both the Heat and Scorchers, who are out of finals contention with a handful of games to go.

This could well be a fight for the wooden spoon if form stays true to script, with both teams having three wins from their eleven games, and the sixth-placed Strikers now two wins clear after a big win over the Hurricanes last night.

The Queensland club have had major problems with their batting throughout the eighth season of BBL cricket. While the top order is strong on paper, Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum haven’t fired, and it’s been telling with a weak middle order unable to salvage things more often than not.

That’s where the big fight in this game appears to be as well, with the Scorchers few wins coming on the back of good new ball bowling from players like Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye.

If they start strongly with the ball, then the same problems are likely to rear their ugly head for the Heat.

The other thing the Heat must adress is their bowling tactics. The criminal underuse of Mitchell Swepson, and poor powerplay bowling of spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been a killer for the franchise.

If that continues here, then the Scorchers, with players like Shaun Marsh and Cameron Bancroft at the top of the order, should be able to capitalise.

Last time out for the Scorchers, they took on the Renegades though and capitulated at the top of the order, falling to just 79.

Once things have gone pear-shaped for them this season, it’s been an impossible job recovering, so they need to be better at the top of the order tonight.

The loss makes it three on the trot for Perth, while the Heat have lost three of their last four and were struggling in an eventual no result against the Thunder.

Prediction
This game has a wooden spoon bowl feel to it, so, despite ladder positions, there is still plenty on the line. I get the feeling the Heat have more X-Factor players at the top of the order though, and either Lynn or McCullum is overdue to go big. At home, I’ll take the Heat.
