The Brisbane Heat are building a head of steam and will look to keep it going as they head back home to host the Sydney Thunder in the BBL. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:15pm (AEDT).

When the sides met just over just over a week ago in Western Sydney, it was the Heat who dominated the contest, before a highly unlikely Sydney Thunder run chase was shortened by rain.

On that occasion, the Heat came away with a crucial 15-run victory which helped to kick-start a busy period of the season for the franchise where they have been moderately successful, bringing themselves right back into the finals race.

The Heat struggled early in the season, but counting a win over the Perth Scorchers before this current stretch of five games in 12 days, the side have now won three of their last four and, after tonight and a match against the Sydney Sixers on the weekend, will enjoy a week off the park.

The victories have brought Brisbane up to sixth on the table, but they still have plenty to work on, with middle order batting still being their downfall. Unless runs come from Max Bryant, Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn, it’s been a struggle.

The Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, have been somewhat consistent, picking up four wins from their eight games.

After a strong start to the season, the loss to the Heat in that rain-shortened game has seemed to impact their momentum, although they were excellent on the weekend against the Adelaide Strikers, winning by 71 runs after reducing the defending champions to 97.

With Jos Buttler out of the side, their in-form batsmen are Jason Sangha and Shane Watson, while the key still lands in their bowling performance, particularly from short-form spinning specialist Fawad Ahmed.

Prediction
The Heat are at home and displaying some good signs. So long as their top order fire, they should pick up another crucial win over the Thunder, propelling them towards finals action in a month’s time.

Heat in a close one.
