Pre-tournament favourites Brisbane Heat will be desperate to kickstart their BBL|09 campaign when they tackle the Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary of the match from 7:10pm (AEDT).
Brisbane are staring down the barrel of a 1-5 start to a season they were expected to dominate. Despite destroying the Sydney Sixers a few matches ago, the Heat are yet to truly fire in BBL|09 and need to start stringing wins together if they hope to fulfil the expectations placed upon them.
It can be difficult at times for a team to fire when their fortunes are highly dependant on a superstar batsman like Chris Lynn. On his day Lynn is practically a cheat code, as he showed against the Sixers, blasting over 90 runs in under 40 deliveries. On his day no batsman in the game comes close to wreaking the carnage Lynn does against opposition bowlers.
Lynn’s good days, however, have been rare so far this season, and it’s hurting the Heat big time. His most recent score was a meagre 14 against the Perth Scorchers two days ago. To be fair, Lynn has not received the support required from talented players like Tom Banton and Matt Renshaw to really alleviate the pressure he has to face every time he goes out into the middle.
Lynn was forced to play conservatively against Perth given the steady loss of wickets but eventually had to hit out when he was batting with the tail.
AB de Villiers will no doubt improve this team when he arrives for the last six games, but he can’t do it all himself. As it stands, if Lynn doesn’t score big, Brisbane Heat lose. That’s a lot of pressure for the Heat captain to handle.
With this in mind, the Hurricanes know that getting Lynn out cheaply goes a long way to keeping Brisbane at bay. If Lynn fails to fire again tonight, Hobart will fancy their chances of securing their third win of the season.
The Hurricanes are quietly doing their bit this season, earning two wins to go with two defeats. They are punching above their weight and will give Brisbane an honest test.
Prediction
The Heat at their best will win tonight but it has been difficult to pick when Lynn and company will show up with their best form. Given the below-par showing in Perth, the Heat should be expected to respond aggressively against a hardworking Hurricanes outfit.
Heat to win.
