The Hobart Hurricanes will look to end a two-match losing streak when they host the last team they defeated, the Perth Scorchers, at Blundstone Arena. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7:10pm AEDT.
Three matches ago the Hurricanes appeared to turn a corner with a fantastic victory over the Scorchers in Perth. D’Arcy Short hit a memorable century en route to guiding Hobart to their third win of the season.
Since that victory, however, the Hurricanes have failed to kickstart their season, losing their past two matches to the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder respectively, even with Matthew Wade back in the line-up for the hosts.
The Scorchers, on the other hand, have had an extended break following their victory over the struggling Melbourne Renegades and will be keen to further sink Hobart’s hopes of playing finals with a win away from home.
If Perth are to register a decent total, they will have to find a way to navigate the good bowling of Scott Boland, who has taken three wickets and conceded fewer than 30 runs in two of his past three matches.
The Scorchers opening batsmen are similar to the Brisbane Heat in that regard. They can be explosive yet inconsistent, and it will take Boland only one good delivery to unsettle Perth and tighten the run rate.
Hobart, meanwhile, will need big scores from Wade and company to give themselves a chance of defeating Perth. The departure of D’Arcy Short is a huge blow for the hosts, and it’s no surprise their results have suffered since the talented opener left for India to join the Australian team.
Prediction
This is a tricky contest to pick. Hobart are a solid unit, and if Wade can pick up from where D’Arcy Short left off against Perth a few games ago, coupled with Boland’s good bowling, the Hurricans can secure their fourth win of the campaign.
Hobart to win.
