Cameron Bancroft makes his return to top-flight cricket as the Perth Scorchers travel to Launceston and try to get their season back on track against the Hobart Hurricanes. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:15pm (AEDT).
After spending nine months on the sidelines following the ball-tampering debacle in South Africa, Bancroft has been rushed straight into the Scorchers squad.
It’s been a tale of differing fortunes early on this season for the Scorchers and Hurricanes, but ones neither team were expected to have before the season got underway.
The Scorchers, who have an unbelievably stacked roster and were widely tipped to take out the competition have got off to a stuttering start, picking up just a single win from their first three games.
A first up loss to the Melbourne Renegades was a cause for concern, but losing to the Sydney Sixers in their second game would have had alarm bells ringing.
In saying all of that, it’s early days in the new season and with 14 games this time around, there is plenty of time for a recovery effort to be staged, particularly with a lot of home games later in the season.
Their effort in beating the Adelaide Strikers was positive last time out, but it’s hard to get a read given they bowled first on a green top and only chased down 88 with two overs to spare.
There is plenty of pressure on the Scorchers to get things rolling, but the Hurricanes aren’t going to be any sort of push over based on the way they have started the season.
While the Scorchers sit seventh, the Hurricanes have cruised up to top spot on the table with three from three on the back of a firing batting order and economical bowling attack.
They got out of prison in their last start over the Sydney Thunder though with some woeful death bowling allowing Matthew Wade, D’Arcy Short and George Bailey to hit them to a successful chase of 193.
Their other wins, over the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat, were both fairly convincing and their batting order has been in stunning form with the experienced trio leading the way.
This will be their biggest test yet though, with the Scorchers having one of the best bowling and fielding teams in the competition. It’s runs which have been the problem for Perth so far.
But, with Matthew Wade continuing his Shield form, he must be stopped first if the Scorchers are to have a chance.
Prediction
Perth are a professional outfit and Hobart are due for a loss, so I’m taking the Scorchers.

Thanks for joining me this evening on The Roar for our live coverage of the 2018 Big Bash League. Hopefully you enjoyed the call. Tomorrow, it's the Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers, however, that'll be it from me for 2018. I wish you all a very safe and Happy New Year and hope to see you all again in 2019. Bye for now.

That English commentator is Phil Tuffnell. He was a decent spinner for Poms in 80s and 90s.

HOBART HURRICANES DEFEAT PERTH SCORCHERS BY SIX WICKETS The Hobart Hurricanes have put together a crushing performance at UTAS Stadium in Launceston to continue their undefeated start to the Big Bash League season, beating the Perth Scorchers by six wickets. The victory was set up by their classy batting attack. The pressure was on Perth from Ball 1 when they lost Will Bosisto. From there, the Scorchers lost four wickets in the first four overs and slumped to end up 8 for 107, with the recovery of sorts led by Ashton Agar, Hilton Cartwright and a late cameo from Nathan Coulter-Nile. The chase got off to a cracking start with Matthew Wade and D'Arcy Short putting a 50-run stand on the board in the first seven overs to put the game all but beyond doubt. There were some wickets down the stretch, but the Hurricanes were never going to be challenged in what is their fourth win of the season. Perth Scorchers: 8/107 (20) Hobart Hurricanes: 4/110 (17.4)

FOUR That will be the end of that. Full and straight from Tye with Doolan playing a cracker of a straight drive down the ground to the fence. Hurricanes have won pretty comprehensively here. Over: 17.4 Hurricanes: 4/110 Target: 108

Short and wide here from Coulter-Nile. Agar looks to have taken a super catch at point, but then drops it trying to get up by the looks of this. Over: 16.4 Hurricanes: 4/101 Target: 108

WICKET! George Bailey, Caught Cameron Bancroft, Bowled Nathan Coulter-Nile 1 (5) Full and a bit of width here. Mid off and cover are in the circle, so Bailey goes the cover drive, but gets a thick outside edge on it through to Bancroft. Over: 16.1 Hurricanes: 4/99 Target: 108

Doolan works the final ball from back of a length into the leg side, but can't get a run. 9 to win. Over: 16 Hurricanes: 3/99 Target: 108

That's an interesting shot. Looked like Bailey was trying to duck a bouncer, but he ended up pivoting and puling through mid wicket for a single. Over: 15.5 Hurricanes: 3/99 Target: 108

Doolan in my opinion should be looked at for the Test team. He has a very solid technique and would do a great job as opener or at number 3.
